A length or strand of resilient material is formed into a continuous ring having multiple tissue-engaging portions for engaging and spreading eyeball tissue segments apart. The strand is formed with elongated straight sides joined by corner portions which are enlarged in directions transverse to the length dimension of each adjacent side. The corner portions constitute the tissue-engaging portions and have top and bottom sections and a connecting section that forms a gap for receiving the tissue. Each side of the ring extends from a bottom section of one corner to a top section of an adjacent corner. When the ring is deployed, the tissue is captured in the gaps at the corners of the ring and also is engaged along each side as that side transitions from a position situated below the tissue to a position situated above the issue.

Expansion ring for eyeball tissue

A method of implanting a continuous iris-expanding ring in an eye involves ejecting the continuous iris-expanding ring from a distal end of a cannula toward an iris of the eye, securing a distal portion of the continuous iris-expanding ring device ring to the iris of the eye, and securing a proximal portion of the continuous iris-expanding ring to the iris of the eye. The continuous iris-expanding ring is in a collapsed configuration in the cannula prior to being ejected and in an expanded configuration when the proximal portion and the distal portion of the continuous iris-expanding ring are secured to the iris of the eye and extend across the pupil.

An iris-expanding device injector assembly is described. The iris-expanding device injector assembly has a handle, a slider and/or button coupled with the handle and configured to slide with respect to the handle, a cannula coupled with the handle, the cannula configured to slide in to and out from a holder containing an iris-expanding device, and a hook housed within the cannula.

Implantation assembly for an iris-expanding device

A thin resilient strand, such as medical suture material, extends from a stiffer shank. The strand can form a resilient hook and/or it can have an arcuate free end to engage tissue such as the interior of a capsular bag at approximately its equator during ophthalmic surgery.

Reconfigurable ring set

Two elongated side plates are pivotally connected together for rotation about an axis extending lengthwise of and between the side plates. Thin, elongated necks extend distally from the side plates to a pair of jaws configured to grasp and release a foldable intraocular lens. The necks connecting the jaws to the side plates are shaped such that adjacent points are substantially intersected by the axis, with such intersection point located to be positioned at approximately the corneal incision during a lens implantation procedure. Thus, with the jaws positioned interiorly of the lens capsule, the jaws can be swung between open and closed positions without unnecessary stretching of the corneal incision.
