Systems and method for displaying two navigation bars to navigate a video asset, where the first navigation bar provides navigation to a predetermined point and the second navigation bar allows a frame-by-frame navigation are described. The methods determine the time span, coverage of scene and chapters, and display formats of the second navigation bar. The time span of the second navigation bar may be configured to include frames of a desired scene or chapter such that the initial frame and the last frame of the scene are included for frame-by-frame navigation. The time span may also cover scene or chapter that are non-consecutive to the current play position such that multiple non-consecutive chapters can be navigated within the same second navigation bar. Functionality that includes annotating, editing, transmitting, on a per frame level is provided through the second navigation bar.

Efficient video player navigation

Systems and methods are provided herein for conforming audio to a video to avoid discordance. This may be accomplished by a system receiving a video and selection of an audio asset. The system may identify a plurality of break points in the audio asset based on one or more characteristics of the audio asset. A first portion of the audio asset may be generated based on one or more characteristics of the received video (e.g., length of the video), wherein the first portion of the audio asset begins and/or ends at a break point of the plurality of break points. The system may then generate a media item comprising the video and the first portion of the audio asset.

Methods for conforming audio and short-form video

Systems and methods are provided herein for providing spatial audio cues for notifying a user of a user interface ('UI') element in augmented reality (“AR”). This may be accomplished by a system determining a location and orientation of a device, and then determining an estimated augmented reality view using the location and orientation of the device. The system may then determine whether a UI element is within the augmented reality view. If the UI element is within the augmented reality view, the system can play an audio cue signaling a position of the UI element using audio spatialization. After hearing the audio cue, the user may then view the UI element in AR using the device.

Spatial audio cues for augmented reality applications

A holographic display is comprised of space-multiplexed elemental modulators, each of which consists of a surface acoustic wave transducer atop an anisotropic waveguide. Each 'line' of the overall display consists of a single anisotropic waveguide across the display's length with multiple surface acoustic wave transducers spaced along the waveguide length, although for larger displays, the waveguide may be divided into segments, each provided with separate illumination. Light that is undiffracted by a specific transducer is available for diffraction by subsequent transducers. Per transducer, guided-mode light is mode-converted to leaky-mode light, which propagates into the substrate away from the viewer before encountering a volume reflection grating and being reflected and steered towards the viewer. The display is transparent and all reflection volume gratings operate in the Bragg regime, thereby creating no dispersion of ambient light.

Near-to-eye and see-through holographic displays

In a method for forming a holographic image, light is provided to a flat-panel holographic video display that includes waveguide elements that each have a light-guiding substrate and an array of transducers configured to produce a diffraction grating comprising surface acoustic waves. The grating causes the waveguide to outcouple light, focusing it to, or producing wavefront curvatures consistent with it having emanated from, one or more points, in order to form a holographic image. The transducer array may include a large number of densely packed, vertically-adjacent transducers for each hogel for full parallax or may include a small number of vertically-adjacent transducers and a cylindrical optical element for each hogel. The display may be edge-illuminated by a collinear multicolor source. The substrate exit face may have nanopatterned areas alternated with flat areas in order to create regions of optimal internal reflection next to regions of low reflection.

Transparent flat-panel holographic display

A tangible social network system comprises at least two interactive physical objects adapted for communicatively linking with each other, a visualization application for providing a visual representation of a user's tangible social network, and an object communication frame. An interactive physical object comprises a controller for forming a communicatively linked relationship with another interactive physical object and for receiving and responding to commands and data received from a linked object, and an audio or visual response subsystem. An object communication frame comprises a housing adapted to receive interactive physical objects, a communications subsystem for managing communications with installed objects and with interactive physical objects communicatively linked with installed objects, a controller, and a power subsystem for powering installed objects. The frame or objects may interact with a visualization application, comprising subsystems for receiving information about the user's tangible social network and deriving a representation of it, and a graphical user interface for providing the visual representation to the user.

Tangible social network

A flat-panel holographic video display includes a control layer and waveguide elements. Each waveguide element has a light-guiding substrate and an array of transducers configured to produce a diffraction grating comprising surface acoustic waves. The grating causes the waveguide to outcouple light, focusing it to, or producing wavefront curvatures consistent with it having emanated from, one or more points, in order to form a holographic image. An anisotropic spatial acousto-optic modulator for a holographic display system includes a substrate, an anisotropic waveguide that guides light into a single polarization, and a transducer that generates surface acoustic waves that propagate linearly with the guided, polarized light, converting at least some of the polarized light into a leaky mode of orthogonally polarized light. The acoustic waves may be encoded with holographic information. The modulator may include coupling devices for coupling light into the waveguide, which may have multiple channels. A holographic video display system includes at least one anisotropic spatial acousto-optic modulator. The pattern of the surface acoustic waves, encoded with holographic information, acts as a diffraction pattern that causes the modulator output to form a wavefront that becomes at least part of a holographic image. The system may have multiple channels in multiple waveguides, wherein each waveguide writes one or more lines of the holographic image.

Anisotropic leaky-mode modulator for holographic video displays

A holographic video display employs at least one light source adapted to produce at least one wavelength of monochromatic light, a video signal generator, at least one guided-wave acousto-optic modulator for diffracting light received from the light source according to signals received from the video signal generator, a vertical scanning subsystem, and an optical path between the acousto-optic modulator and the vertical scanning subsystem. The optical path may preferably include a Bravais lens system, at least one Fourier transform lens system, and at least one moving horizontal mirror.

Holographic video display system

A synchronization mechanism embeds synchronization triggers into a television signal or stream at regular intervals. The triggers include an accurate representation of the time in which the triggers were embedded. A receiving device decodes the triggers and synchronizes its internal timer based on the triggers. In this regard, the receiving device obtains a reference time from the internal timer and computes an offset between the reference time and the trigger time. The computed offset is then applied to the reference time. With the receipt of each new trigger, the application compares the trigger time to a new reference time with the most recently computed offset value applied. If there is any variance between these two values, the application creates a new smoothed offset.

Synchronization and automation in an ITV environment

A system and method for adding hyperlinked information to a television broadcast in which an interactive content icon is used. The broadcast material is analyzed and one or more regions within a frame are identified. Additional information can be associated with a region, and can be transmitted in encoded form, using timing information to identify the frame with which the information is associated. A receiver displays the annotation information associated with the video signal in response to a viewer request on a frame by frame basis. The interactive content icon can be used to inform a viewer of the presence of hyperlinked information, for teaching the viewer how to use the system, and for informing the viewer about the hyperlinked information.

Method and apparatus for interaction with hyperlinks in a television broadcast

A holographic video display comprises a monochromatic light source, a video signal generator, guided-wave acousto-optic modulators for diffracting light according to signals received from the video signal generator, a vertical scanning subsystem, and an optical path between the acousto-optic modulator and the vertical scanning subsystem. The optical path preferably comprises a Bravais lens system, first and second Fourier transform lens systems, and at least one holographic optical element or stationary mirror of continuous helical shape. In a method for generating a holographic image, monochromatic light is provided to at least one guided-wave acousto-optic modulator, the received light is diffracted according to a video signal, the guided-wave modulator aperture is scanned to produce a holo-line, the motion of the diffraction pattern is undone to render the holo-line stationary, the guided-wave modulator aperture is demagnified to create a wide field of view, and the holo-lines are tiled vertically to create the image.

Disclosed are smart digital modules, a smart digital wall combining the smart digital modules, a context-aware interactive multimedia system, and an operating method thereof. The smart digital wall includes local coordinators for controlling the smart digital modules, and a coordination process for controlling the smart digital modules. The smart digital modules sense ambient states and changes of states and independently display corresponding actuations. The coordination process is connected to the smart digital modules via radio communication, and combines smart digital modules to control collective operations of the smart digital modules.
