A method and a device for determining color register and lateral register deviations on printing material during production in multi-color printing presses, include a computing unit which takes into consideration the influence of ghosting effects when measuring the deviations on the printing material. The ghosting effects of at least one preceding and/or one succeeding printed image are recursively taken into consideration in the computing unit, when measuring on the printing material.

A sheet-fed offset printing press prints multiple colors on both sides of sheets, preferably on sheets of paper. A first row of in-line printing units print a first side of the sheet, before the sheets are turned in a reversing device, which is followed by a second row of in-line printing units for printing the other side of the sheets. The second row of in-line printing units is followed by one or more varnishing units that are arranged in such a way or include varnishing blanket cylinders that are arranged in such a way that the front sides and the back sides of the passing sheets are varnished.

A method for treating a re-imageable printing form includes surface modifying a surface of the printing form acting as a printing area in a nanoscopic range by chemically functionalizing the surface through covering with molecules, in particular amphiphilic molecules or polymers. The printing form is subjected to a primary process of imaging by laser radiation, and subjected to a primary process of application of at least one lithographic fluid, for example dampening solution, printing ink and/or varnish. The molecules are fixed in image regions by the primary process of imaging. The molecules are removed in non-image regions substantially by at least one primary process different than the application of printing ink, in particular by imaging, application of dampening solution or chemical developing. For the active compensation of oscillations in a machine which processes printing material, a signal which contains an oscillation of the machine or of a part of the machine is measured and at least one counter torque is introduced into the machine to reduce the oscillation. At least one measure for a ratio between the amplitude of the uncompensated oscillation and the amplitude of the counter torque necessary for complete compensation is compared with a threshold value. The counter torque is determined in a first functional relationship with the oscillation if the measure is greater than the threshold value, and the counter torque is determined in a second functional relationship with the oscillation, if the measure is smaller than the threshold value. In the machine, a regulating device is operated in a first or second operating mode in dependence on the measure of the ratio.
