The use of catechins or gallic esters of catechins or aqueous or organic extracts from plants or parts of plants which have a content of catechins or gallic esters of catechins, for example the leaves of the plant family Theaceae, in particular of the species (green tea) or a typical ingredient thereof (such as, e.g. polyphenols or catechins, caffeine, vitamins, sugars, minerals, amino acids, lipids), for intensifying natural skin tanning or for stimulating melanogenesis in human skin.

Cosmetic or pharmaceutical preparations which are distinguished by an effective content of one or more monomeric or homo- or heterodimeric or homo- or heterotrimeric or homo- or heterotetrameric oligopeptides, where these oligopeptides are based on a structure Asn-Ser-Leu-Asp-Phe SEQ ID NO: 1 as homo- or heteromonomer.
