The invention concerns a method for the photometric analysis of test elements with a detection zone which is stable towards positioning tolerances of the detection zone comprising the following steps: activating the first light source to irradiate a first region of the detection zone and detecting the light reflected from the detection zone or transmitted through the detection zone in order to generate a first detection signal ( ), activating the second light source to irradiate a second region of the detection zone which is displaced relative to the first region in the direction of the positioning tolerance and detecting the light reflected from the detection zone or transmitted through the detection zone in order to generate a second detection signal ( ), comparing the first and the second detection signal and determining whether the first and/or the second detection signal has been obtained by illuminating an area situated completely on the detection zone. The invention also concerns a device to carry out this method and a method for the photometric analysis of a test element with detection of sample application.

Method for the photometric analysis of test elements

Method and device for checking the liquid take up of a test layer of an analysis element. The test layer is absorbent and takes up a liquid when an analysis is carried out. The test layer is illuminated with primary light to generate a light signal characteristic of the liquid take up. Secondary light emerging here from the analysis element is detected. The test layer is in contact with an optically transparent foil segment. Reliably checking liquid take up is achieved by detecting secondary light emerging from the circumferential surface of the foil.

An analysis test strip and a process for the production of analysis test strips with a longitudinal carrier upon which is fixed at least one test field. The test field material is produced batchwise in an amount sufficient for a plurality of test strips, and thereafter, in a chronologically separate working step, is continuously fixed in the form of at least one band onto a parallel-running substantially wider band of test strip carrier material. The band as a whole is cut up transversely to its longitudinal direction into a plurality of test strips. Prior to the cutting up, a bar code is applied to the carrier band running parallel to the edges thereof of such high information density that it is suitable as a store of batch-specific information necessary for the quantitative evaluation of the reaction which has previously been obtained by investigation of the test field material of one batch.

Analysis test strip

A device for the optical identification of a bar coding on a diagnostic test strip in an evaluation device in which the test strip is positively movable relative to a reading device for the coding, with a source of light as a transmitter and a light-sensitive element as a receiver. The bar coding has a high information density and between the test strip and the transmitter and/or between the test strip and the receiver there is, in each case, present a slit aperture and a cylindrical lens. The lens axis runs parallel to the test strip surface carrying the coding and to the code bars, the slit aperture lies in the plane defined by the cylinder axis and the transmitter or receiver and the distance between the lens axis and the test strip surface is substantially such that the focus lines of the lens lie approximately in the test strip surface.
