A coated glass element includes: a glass surface and a coating that coats at least part of the glass surface. The coating has at least one layer. The at least one layer of the coating fulfills the following parameter: [Al]/[Al]≥1.8. [Al]are counts of [Al] ions, measured by a time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS), at 20% of a time a sputter gun beam needs to reach the glass surface and [Al]are counts of [Al] ions, measured by a TOF-SIMS, at 80% of a time a sputter gun beam needs to reach the glass surface.

Coated glass element

A coated glass container includes: a glass surface; and a coating that coats at least part of the glass surface to form a coated glass surface. The coating includes at least one layer. The coated glass container fulfills the following parameter: leaching of [Na] ions after an alkaline treatment is 10 mg/l or less [Na] ions.

A glass vial includes a base including a boron-containing multicomponent glass and a vial opening and holds a liquid active pharmaceutical ingredient formulation. The glass vial has a total volume of &#x3c;4.5 mL. A filling level of the glass vial with the active pharmaceutical ingredient formulation is not more than 0.25 and a concentration of boron ions, measured at a measurement site below a plane of a middle of the glass vial using a concentration depth profile at a depth in a range from 10 to 30 nm, has a value, averaged over the measurements of the concentration depth profile, that has an excess increase of not more than 30% compared to a concentration of boron ions measured using a concentration depth profile at a depth in a range from 10 to 30 nm with a measurement site in the plane of the middle of the glass vial.

Glass vial with increased chemical stability

A rapid test method for evaluating the delamination in glass packaging is provided. The method includes exposing the glass packaging means to an atmosphere consisting of steam in order to form a corrosion zone; and subsequently carrying out at least one other step. The other step includes: visualizing the corrosion zone using a light microscope; visualizing the corrosion zone by a staining process with a subsequent inspection process; or removing glass components in ultrapure water and quantifying the removed glass components. The rapid test method provides a conclusion about whether a glass packaging exhibits a tendency to delaminate or not in a simple and reliable manner and in a relatively short time span.

A container for pharmaceutical and medical applications made from glass, preferably from a borosilicate glass. The container is formed in the shape of a hollow body open at both its ends with a cylindrical portion having a wall thickness tolerance of maximally &#xb1;0.2 mm. The borosilicate glass has a nominal boron content that drops by less than 40% relative to the nominal value at all of the surfaces of the container.
