A printing machine having an inking unit which prevents overinking of the printing cylinder upon increases in printing speed, such as during start-up of a printing operation. The inking unit includes an ink supply, two roll trains each comprising a plurality of inking rolls for communicating ink from the ink supply to a plurality of ink applicator rolls associated with the printing cylinder, with at least one inking roll in each roll train being displaceable in phase with an increase in printing speed for interrupting the respective roll train and preventing excessive ink application to the printing cylinder.

Method and apparatus for ink feed control

The invention relates to a sheet-fed rotary printing machine with printing units for multicolor printing and at least one coating unit. An object of the invention is to provide stable quality during the coating process and to reduce contamination of coating fluids. This is achieved by providing at least one coating unit being arranged downstream of the printing units, the coating unit including a cleaning system. More specifically, each of the coating units has a rotatable applicator roller, a metering system for applying coating fluid to the applicator roller, and a cleaning wiper system which is movable into and out of contact with the applicator roller. The cleaning wiper is arranged upstream of the metering system relative to a direction of rotation of the applicator roller.

An apparatus for feeding a printing plate to a printing machine is disclosed. The apparatus of the printing machine includes a guard plate connected to the frame and moveable between a first position which impedes access to the interior of the printing machine and a second position which allows access to the interior of the printing machine. The apparatus further includes a support bracket pivotally connected to the guard plate and articulating means for permitting movement of the support bracket with respect to the guard plate between a first, essentially vertical position supporting the printing plate in a ready position and a second, inclined position for feeding the printing plate to the printing machine.
