A dust extractor for a drill is provided, including a single air flow path, a shroud having an internal chamber for collecting dust in fluid communication with a first end of the single air flow path, a filter assembly located in the single air flow path, a vacuum source connected to a second end of the single air flow path, and an air flow control mechanism controlling a direction of air flow generated by the vacuum source. During a normal operation, the vacuum source draws air and entrained debris from the internal chamber of the shroud through the single air flow path. During a back flush operation, the vacuum source blows air and entrained debris through the single air flow path towards the shroud. The air passes through the filter assembly to remove the entrained debris in either direction.

Dust extractor with flat back

A dust collection box for a dust extractor includes first and second air inlet chambers, an air inlet aperture through which air is drawn into the first air inlet chamber, an air outlet aperture through which air is dawn out of the second air outlet chamber, an air intermediate chamber formed in the housing, and a filter mounted within the housing. The filter includes a first part through which air passes from the air inlet chamber to the air outlet chamber, and a second part through which air passes from the air inlet chamber to the air intermediate chamber. An ambient air aperture is formed in the wall of the housing. A valve disposed proximate the ambient air aperture is switchable to connect the air intermediate chamber to only one of the air outlet chamber or the ambient air aperture.

Dust collection box

A handle assembly for a power tool is disclosed. The handle assembly includes a base adapted to be mounted to a body of a power tool, and a handle having first and second mounting portions pivotably mounted to respective ends of the base. An elongate torsion spring has a first part mounted to the base and a respective second part mounted to each mounting portion such that pivoting of the handle relative to the base member causes twisting of the torsion member to resiliently oppose pivoting of the handle relative to the base portion.

Handle assembly for power tool

A switch mechanism includes a support structure and an electric switch having an activator moveable between a first position where the electric switch is ON and a second position where the electric switch is OFF. A cam is connected to a first actuator, moveably mounted on the support structure, so that movement of the first actuator results in movement of the cam. A bar is connected to a second actuator, moveably mounted on the support structure, so that movement of the second actuator results in movement of the bar. The cam engages the activator so that movement of the cam by movement of the first actuator results in the activator moving between its two positions. The bar engages the activator so that movement of the bar by movement of the second actuator results in the activator moving between its two positions.

Switch mechanism for a power cutter

A hammer drill has a transmission housingis formed from two clamshell halves of durable plastics or cast metal material. The transmission housingis mounted on first and second damping springsandat its rearward end. The transmission housingis also mounted on parallel rails (not shown) disposed within the tool housingsuch that the transmission housingcan slide a small distance relative to the tool housing. The forward end of the transmission housinghas a generally part conical portion, which abuts a corresponding part conical portionformed on the tool housing. The interface defined by conical portionsanddefines a stop against which the transmission housingrests against the tool housingin the inoperative condition of the hammer drill. When the hammer drillis being used, a gap opens up between the conical surfacesandwhich helps to damp axial and lateral vibrations that would otherwise be transmitted from the tool bit (not shown) to the user. However, the gap is sufficiently small that the hammer drilland the transmission housingcan still be adequately controlled by the user, and the part conical shape of the interface also assists in aligning the transmission housingwith the tool housingin order to give a user greater control over the direction of the tool bit.

Power tool housing

A switch mechanism for a power tool switchable between an ON and OFF state including a support structure; a first actuator rotatably mounted on the support structure and which is rotatable between a first position and a second position, wherein the first actuator is capable of being releasably latched in either of the first or second positions. The first actuator includes a recess. A second actuator is a slidable button located inside of the recess of the first actuator so that the first actuator at least partially surrounds the second actuator, and is linearly slidable within the recess between a first position and a second position. The second actuator is biased towards its first position. Movement of the first actuator from its first position to its second position, when the second actuator is in its first position, switches the switching mechanism to its ON state; and movement of the first actuator from its second position to its first position, when the second actuator is in its first position, switches the switching mechanism to its OFF state. Movement of the second actuator from its first position to its second position, when the first actuator is latched in its second position, switches the switch mechanism to its OFF state.

A power tool cooling system comprises a cooling fan disposed on a motor in a position between the upper field coil and the lower commutator. A transmission housing encapsulates the transmission mechanism. During operation, the fan is driven by the motor and draws air axially through the motor and expels the air radially outwardly through holes in the outer housing of the motor. This causes air to be drawn in through the air vents formed on the top of a tool housing, in the side of the housing and between the housing and a battery pack. The cool air flows outside of the transmission housing, but inside the tool housing such that air does not pass through the transmission mechanism. A plurality of motor openings are also formed in the outer housing of the motor to enable cool air to pass into the motor to cool the motor.

Power tool cooling

A transmission housing for a hammer drill comprises two clamshell halves and that mate to define a first transmission housing chamber and a second transmission housing chamber disposed on either side of a ball bearing race. The first and second transmission housing chambers are interconnected by channels. The rear end of a hollow piston, a cylindrical bearing, a crank pin and a crank plate are disposed in the first transmission housing chamber, and a spindle is disposed in the second transmission housing chamber. Overflow channels and allow movement of air between the first and second transmission housing chambers to reduce compression of air iduring reciprocation of the hollow piston.

A gear wheel is rotatably mounted on a drive shaft. The drive shaft has a plurality of longitudinal splines formed thereon. A drive sleeve surrounds the drive shaft and has a plurality of the inner splines formed on its interior surface. The inner splines slidably intermesh with outer splines of the drive shaft such that the drive sleeve can slide up and down on but cannot rotate relative to the drive shaft. A coil spring biases the drive sleeve downwardly. Drive sleeve teeth are formed around the bottom edge of the drive sleeve. Corresponding gear plate teeth are formed on the upper surface of the gear wheel and are adapted to engage the drive sleeve teeth when the drive sleeve is in its downward most position under the influence of the coil spring. In this position, the gear wheel is operatively coupled to the drive shaft.

A battery powered, hand guided power tool, such as a hammer, includes a tool housing that contains an electric motor M, a grip portion and a rail-and-channel structure for releasable mounting of a rechargeable battery pack A locking device is provided on the tool housing and includes a latch element which is movable into a latch recess formed in a housing of the battery pack whereby the battery pack is locked in an operative position on the tool housing, movable by a user, against the force of a spring The latch element can be pivoted by a user to extract the latch element from the latch recess for the release of the battery pack from assembly with the tool housing On the tool housing adjacent to the rail-and-channel structure there is provided a frame part that includes at least one frame-part recess The latch element and the associated spring are introduced into the frame-part recess from an open side thereof. An operating element in the form of a two-armed lever, is pivotally mounted laterally of the frame-part recess where one arm of the lever is accessible for pivoting by the user and the other arm is in engagement with the latch element to facilitate displacement of the latch element from the locking position. Also, the operating element supports the latch element from being displaced completely from the frame-part recess

Battery-powered hand-guided power tool

A mode change switch for a power tool, which switch is moveable between at least two positions corresponding to different operating modes of the tool in which different components of the tool are brought into a meshing engagement. The switch comprises a manually operable driving member moveable between at least two positions in each of which it is adapted to be realizably restrained and a driven member which is adapted to be driven by the driving member between associated positions to directly or indirectly facilitate a change in operating mode. A spring engages between the driving member and driven member, to urge the driven member to follow the movement of the driving member. The switch is arranged so that a first end of the spring abuts a first pair of stop members and a second end of the spring abuts a second pair of stop members. One of each pair of stop members is located on the driving member. And the other of each pair is located on the driven member.
