An extruder and tube extruder or metal extrusion press that has a press frame, which is composed of a cylinder bar and a counter bar connected to said cylinder bar, in which a movable block receiver holder that bears a block receiver and a movable plunger traverse are provided. A main cylinder or pressing cylinder is arranged in the cylinder bar. The cylinder receiving in its cylinder housing a pressing piston provided with a pressing plunger, and in which an equalization container is arranged in the cylinder housing. A tube or metal extrusion press has a stationary press frame formed by a main housing, a counter housing, a billet support carrying a billet holder, and a ram cross-member movable in the press frame between the housings. A piston-cylinder unit has a cylinder on the main housing, a piston in the cylinder, and a ram stem extending between a front end of the piston and the ram cross-member. An equalizing reservoir supplies hydraulic fluid to the piston, and a transfer passage extends between the reservoir and the cylinder rearward of the piston. A fill valve has a displacement sleeve on a rod and carries a ring piston and a fill valve body movable centrally of the cylinder in the transfer passage between an open position in which the passage has a large annular flow cross-section and a closed position in which the valve body blocks the passage.

To accomplish this, the advancing and feed motions of the billet container holder () and punch crosshead () with press piston () are carried out by electromotive force, and both the precompression of the billet () loaded into the billet container () and the subsequent compression of the billet () are done by hydraulic loading of the press piston (). Electric motors () are assigned to the punch crosshead () and the billet container holder () as adjustment drives. A large-scale filling valve () is integrated in the cylinder housing () of the main cylinder for loading the press piston ().

The invention relates to an extrusion press or tube press (), in particular for aluminum or aluminum alloys, comprising a press frame which consists of a cylinder bar and a counter bar () connected thereto, and in which a moving bar and a moving block receiver () are arranged, the moving block receiver being formed to move a block to be pressed, introduced with a loading device, into a compression position in front of the counter bar () having a die, characterized in that a shearing device () is provided for separating a butt remaining after the extrusion process, and the shearing device () is vertically and horizontally movable on the extrusion frame. In a method for operating an indirect extrusion press, wherein the indirect extrusion press includes an indirect punch having a tool head that can be accommodated on the indirect punch, a closure piece, and a longitudinally movable block holder having a material block accommodation for accommodating a material block, after pressing a material block and forming a shell in a shell chamber, a tool head to be replaced is pushed out of the block holder by a tool head to be inserted, so that very operationally reliable removal of a shell formed during one or more pressing procedures is possible. For this purpose, an indirect extrusion press can have a maximal distance between a closure piece and an indirect punch that corresponds at least to the sum of the expanses of the tool head and of the block holder in the movement direction.

A tubular workpiece with a throughgoing bore is held by a handler having a passage alignable with the bore and of a predetermined inside passage diameter. A movable running bar () and a movable receiving device () are disposed within said press frame (), the receiving device () displacing a block () that is introduced with the aid of a charging apparatus and is to be pressed in front of the opposite bar () encompassing a matrix. A press cylinder for an extrusion press having a cylinder beam has a cylinder housing fixed on the beam and a piston shiftable along an axis in opposite forward and rearward directions in the housing and defining with a rear end of the housing a pressurizable cylinder chamber. A rod projecting axially rearwardly through the rear wall of the housing is formed with an axially extending bore. A connection block is fixed on the housing rearward of the piston. An axially extending tube in the bore fixed to the block is surrounded by an axially extending sleeve forming with the tube an annular gap, forming with an inner surface of the bore an annular compartment, and also fixed to the block. This is formed with respective passages opening into the tube and into the annular gap.
