A method for processing a workpiece with a laser cutting machine includes reading out a machine parameter and a material parameter and outputting a process parameter recommendation. The process parameter recommendation is created by a process parameter algorithm with at least one data aggregation routine based on a plurality of cut edge quality features. The method further includes generating a cut edge by laser processing the workpiece.

Method and device for processing a workpiece

A method for cutting a workpiece includes cutting the workpiece along a predefined cutting contour to separate a workpiece part from a scrap part, and checking whether the workpiece part has been fully separated from the scrap part during the cutting. The workpiece is re-cut along an additional cutting contour laterally offset from the predefined cutting contour if it is found during the checking that the workpiece part has not been fully separated from the scrap part. A method for determining a reference focal position of a focused laser beam passing through an opening in a nozzle body of a laser processing nozzle relative to a workpiece, in which the method includes: simultaneously cutting off a portion of the workpiece using the focused laser beam to form an edge on the workpiece and altering a distance between a focal point of the focused laser beam and the workpiece in a direction of an axis of the laser beam; determining coordinates of the edge formed on the workpiece; based on the determined coordinates, determining a section of the edge that protrudes the furthest from the workpiece; and establishing a reference focal position FL of the laser beam based on the determined coordinates corresponding to the section of the edge that protrudes the furthest from the workpiece.

Flushing gas lines of a laser processing machine, by supplying a flushing gas to the system in a series of pressure impulses greater than a residual processing gas pressure after completion of a processing sequence, and allowing the supplied flushing gas to expand and mix with any residual gas between successive pressure impulses, to substantially clear the processing gas from the system.

A laser cutting method employs at least two sensors which are operative during the cutting operation to monitor process parameters and send signals indicative of the monitored parameters determining parameters of the cutting operation in which are indicative of the status of the penetration of the workpiece. The signals from each of the sensors is evaluated by comparing the sensed parameters in the signals with usability criteria to determine the usability of the signals. The signal which compares most favorably with the usability criteria therefor is transmitted to the controller to modify the parameters for the cutting workpiece. In the absence of a control signal from the evaluation, the controller proceeds with the cutting in accordance with parameters which are then operative in the controller. Generally, the selected signal effects the speed of relative movement between the workpiece and cutting head.
