The invention relates to a method for adjusting the drive performance of a motor vehicle having an internal combustion engine with spark ignition. A set torque is determined on the basis of a desired torque which is input by the driver, and possibly additional desired torque requirements. The desired torque is achieved by influencing the load and/or the ignition angle. For this purpose, the invention distinguishes between three operating states. In a first operating state, the torque is adjusted with optimum efficiency by load regulation; in a second operating state the torque adjustment is made as rapidly as possible by an additional ignition angle adjustment. Finally, in the third operating state the torque specification for load regulation is established and the remaining torque adjustment is made by an additional ignition angle adjustment.

Method for adjusting the operating energy input of a motor

The invention provides a method of checking for correct connection of lambda sensors in an internal combustion engine with one or more cylinder groups that incorporates an engine control and a plurality of lambda sensors, with a separate exhaust line with an exhaust catalytic converter and at least one lambda sensor with a lambda-regulating unit connected thereto being associated with each group of cylinders. While retaining the injection of an ignitable mixture at the beginning of a delay time that includes at least the reaction or switching time of the lambda sensors in its current regulating state, the engine control adjusts the lambda-regulating unit of at least one cylinder group, toward rich or lean engine operation and/or suspends its regulating function during the delay. The signal from the lambda sensor intended for use with the selected cylinder group is investigated to determine whether it shows a reaction that is associated with the manipulation performed and indicates a correct connection of this lambda sensor.

Method for testing correctly connected lambda sensors

In an internal combustion engine with at least two groups of cylinders of which each has an exhaust pipe with a catalytic converter and of which one group can be shut down so that it is inoperative during part-load engine operation, the exhaust pipes are joined downstream of the catalytic converters by a common pipe section, and vacuum generating means are provided for subjecting the exhaust pipe of the inoperative cylinder group upstream of its catalytic converter during part load operation when the one cylinder group is shut down to vacuum for pulling exhaust gas from the common pipe section into the catalytic converter of the inoperative cylinder group.
