A direct thermal printer prints on direct thermal printing paper, which has a thermo-reactive layer that can form two colors. A first color is formed at a first temperature, and a second at a second temperature, higher than the first. A printhead of the printer has heat sources arranged transversely to a paper path. Image data of an original image having at least the first color and the second color may be received. Control data may be created for the direct thermal printer for two-color printing of a print image. The control data has a plurality of print lines, and causes, for each print line for each heat source, either heating of the heat source to a printing temperature or no heating of the respectively heat source.

Method for creating control data for multi-color direct thermal printing

A method operates a thermal printer to print on thermal paper. A thermo-reactive layer of the paper forms a first color at a first temperature and a second color at a second, higher temperature. The printer has a printhead with heat sources arranged next to one another transversely to a paper path. The heat sources are selectively controllable. The method includes: a transport roller line by line moving the paper past the printhead; and in each line of the paper, heating selected heat sources. At points at which the second color is formed on the paper, a plurality of adjacent heat sources is heated to a printing temperature. At points at which the first color is to be formed on the paper, a portion of a plurality of the adjacent heat sources is heated to the printing temperature, and the other portion of the adjacent heat sources is not heated.

Method for multi-color direct thermal printing and printer for multi-color direct thermal printing

The invention relates to a method for the provision of activated temperature-sensitive and/or time-sensitive indicators for product marking. A first variant is characterized by the activation of an indicator and the subsequent application of a protective filter to the indicator, with the indicator being conveyed along an activation device and along a protective filter application unit subsequent to it in the conveying direction. A second variant is characterized by the activation of an indicator already provided with a protective filter. The invention furthermore relates to apparatus for the carrying out of the named methods as well as to a product marking which was manufactured in accordance with the methods in accordance with the invention.
