A television receiver providing a stable image whether or not a composite color signal is present, in which a transmitter-recognition processes the television synchronization signals of the composite color signal. A character generator displays alphanumeric as well as graphic characters. The deflection generators and the character generator are operative with TV signals as well as characters that are alphanumeric as well as graphic. The deflection generators and the character generator are driven by control signals. An oscillator controls the deflection generators, and a phase comparator operates in the presence of synchronization signals to synchronize the oscillator. The phase comparator receives no signals from the input terminal when no synchronization signals are present, so that the oscillator oscillates at a fixed preadjustable frequency to provide a stable image.

The invention provides a circuit for electronic control of an internal combustion engines including injection valves that can be activated electrically as a function of regulated variables such as crankshaft position, engine speed, exhaust-gas composition and engine torque. The circuit includes an electronic control unit with means to activate the intake valves, exhaust valves, injection valves and ignition device as a function of ignition duration and ignition timing. The control unit also includes a start-up program with which ignition sequences of the engine cylinders, intake valves, injection valves and ignition device can be activated for any desired cylinder position of an engine-start-up process. The circuit further includes a program memory, an engine-standstill detection circuit, and an absolute-value angle transmitter to which the engine-standstill detection circuit is responsive. The absolute-value angle transmitter includes a coding disk that is integrally connected with the crankshaft of the engine, circuitry for generating signals corresponding to the crankshaft position during standstill and during rotational movement, and circuitry for generating electrical signals corresponding to engine temperature, engine load and engine knocking. The signals are fed as regulated variables to the electronic control unit.

The ignition system consists of a free-running ignition final stage, a miniature induction coil, a static and/or dynamic determination of the ignition angle, and a power supply. The ignition final stage ensures that the ignition current is an alternating current and that the ignition energy is fed to the spark plugs in a current-controlled manner. The ignition point is determined by reading the ignition angle. The electrical supply to the entire ignition final stage and additional consumers in a motor vehicle is through a power supply that converts the current and voltage.

A circuit for demagnetizing a mask in a color picture tube of a television receiver, in which a resistor with positive temperature coefficient is applied to the input alternating current when the receiver is turned on. A bridge rectifier is connected with one terminal, to a first pole of the alternating current source, via the demagnetizing coil that is mounted on the picture tube, and the resistor. The bridge rectifier has another terminal connected to a second pole of the alternating current source. A variable electronic switch interconnects the direct-current output terminals of the bridge rectifier. The variable electronic switch is controlled to continuously decrease current flowing through the demagnetizing coil to zero. For this purpose, a controlling voltage is obtained from a winding in a horizontal-frequency synchronized power-intake stage by flyback rectification. A feedback circuit is connected to a delay network and to the variable electronic switch for opening the latter completely after a time interval determined by the delay network.

A circuit for correcting geometrical distortions in reproducing signals on a screen of a cathode-ray tube in a display monitor. A line-frequency correction current having line deflection frequency is coupled into the vertical deflection unit which serves for deflecting vertically electron beams in the cathode-ray tube. A circuit which provides horizontal deflection current is connected to the primary winding of a differential transformer. The differential transformer has a secondary winding connected to the circuit which supplies vertical deflection current. The distortion is reflected by a cathode-ray tube which has a substantially flat picture screen, in which horizontal lines to be displayed form in angle with a horizontal reference grid.

An arrangement for compensating against the magnetic field of the earth in a picture tube in remote-controlled video-display equipment, in which a compensating voltage is generated by a remote-control channel in the video-display equipment. This voltage is applied to a compensation coil in the picture tube. Current through the coil is adjusted in finely-divided incremental steps, and the current is continuously adjustable. The compensation voltage is applied to one end of the compensation coil, whereas the other end of the coil is supplied with substantially half of the operating voltage of the display equipment.

A method for generating a voltage with a triangular waveform which is independent of frequency. Two oppositely-phased voltages with sawtooth waveforms are added together in an adding circuit. These two waveforms have different amplitudes, and one of the waveforms has a horizontal section during predetermined intervals of a period. The resulting triangular waveform has points at which the waveform passes through zero, and these points coincide with the points at which the sawtooth waveforms pass through zero also. These points at which the waveforms pass through zero corresponds to 0.degree., 180.degree., and 360.degree. of a waveform cycle for eliminating substantially gullwing errors in television sets. These points correspond to the beginning, center and end of lines in the television sets.

A process for synchronizing horizontal deflection of electron beams in television recievers having a reproduced picture with a visible component, when no transmission signals from a television transmitter are present. If an emitted signal is not available, the synchronization is suspended during the time of the visible picture trace, and is activated only during the picture blanking time. For this purpose, the procedure is to switch off a circuit that synchronizes horizontal deflection during the visible component of the reproduced picture. A synchronization circuit is activated only while the picture is being blanked.

A video-display unit in which the beam current of a cathode-ray tube is measured for a predetermined time interval during display of some lines exterior to an image, for establishing automatic cutoff for the electronic beam. This electron beam is defocused during that predetermined time interval, and the defocusing is independent of the contents of the image, so that initial lines are substantially invisible. An electronic switch may be provided for decreasing the focusing voltage of the cathode ray tube. The electronic switch may be a high-vacuum tube connected to the focusing electrode of the cathode-ray tube, or this switch may be a transistor connected through a transformer to the focusing electrode. A coil arrangement comprising two coils on a single coil former, termed a twin coil, is characterized in that the two coils (W1, W2 and, respectively, W3A), with any respective individual magnetic core (10 or, respectively, 9) required, are mounted with a substantial distance from each other on the coil former (1) and in that the respective residual coupling of the coils (W1, W2 and W3A) is eliminated by an oppositely wound or connected compensation winding (W3B). The compensating winding (8) is located in the one winding compartment (3) and has current from the coil in the other winding chamber (4) flowing through it. As a result the twin coil in accordance with the invention leads to some advantages over known twin coils in which the coupling between the two coils is nearly 100%.

Picture tubes with an extremely flat screen exhibit peculiar geometrical distortions in that the beginning and end of the lines in the picture bend symmetrical to the midline as the result of the magnetic deflection field typical of that type of tube. The switch is responsive to a first control signal for generating output pulses in the transformer secondary windings. Horizontal and vertical deflection currents are generated by horizontal and vertical output stages, and each of the two output stages are connected to a driving stage for the purpose of triggering the respective output stage. A modulator supplies a triggering signal to the driving stage and controls line separation. A horizontal frequency control signal and a vertical frequency control signal are generated and applied to horizontal and vertical sawtooth signal generators. The vertical output stage has one input connected to the horizontal sawtooth signal generator, and a second input connected to the vertical sawtooth signal generator through an error amplifier for vertical deflection of the end of the power supply connected to the utility line. An arrangement in a television receiver in which a sychronized external power stage supplies operating voltage to a remote-control receiver and a microprocessor connected thereto. A horizontal drive circuit is controlled by the microprocessor, and a horizontal end stage is connected to the horizontal drive circuit. The external power stage supplies power during stand-by operation only to the remote-control receiver and microprocessor along with the voltage for operating the horizontal drive circuit and the end stage. Thyristors are connected to the external power stage for supplying power to all other circuit stages in the television receiver. The thyristors have gate electrodes activated by the horizontal end stage for cutting off the thyristors during the stand-by operation and interrupting the supply of power to all other circuit stages in the television receiver, for minimizing the power consumption of the television receiver.
