A method of opening a security housing that requires authorization and unlocking moves the printing module transversely by a transverse mover into an additional unlocked position, as a result of which, the security housing or an access thereto is unlocked. The configuration has a mechanical locking or element and a printing module. The printing module is mounted such that it can be moved transversely to the transporting direction, for mechanically releasing the lock of a security-housing part directly or indirectly, by the security-housing part only being released once an additional security-housing part has been unlocked. The latter has a locking element that is disposed in the interior of the security housing and can be actuated by the printing module.

Method of, and configuration for, opening a security housing

A configuration protects a printing module in a mail processing appliance. The mail processing appliance has a supporting frame for the printing mechanism in a non-secure area and has a transverse movement device for transverse movement of a printing module. The printing module is disposed in the supporting frame such that it can move transversely with respect to a direction of mail item transport and is mechanically protected against unauthorized access. A protection cap is attached to the printing carriage and is constructed to surround an area of the variable position printing module that is to be protected. The movement area of the printing module is bounded by the walls of a box within the supporting frame. Impeding devices are provided to impede the transverse movement of the transverse movement device of the printing module once a cover has been opened or removed. The cover covers an opening in the housing, with the opening being provided for replacement of at least one ink cartridge. A mail processing appliance including the configuration is also included.

A security chassis for a secure area in the interior of a secure housing having a supporting frame for the printing mechanism in the non-secure area, a printing module being arranged such that it can move in the supporting frame and being protected mechanically against unauthorized access. The supporting frame is supported on at least one functional edge of at least one chassis shell, and at least two mutually spaced chassis shells surround the secure area. The at least one functional edge has ventilation openings formed at its margin. The geometric shape of the edge of the functional edge making penetration of tools into the secure area enclosed by the two chassis shells impossible.

An apparatus for weighing moving postal items, particularly letters arranged standing on edge, has a weighing pan for the postal items having a lightweight structure resistant to bending and being torsionally stiff, the weighing pan being coupled to a weighing cell at the approximate location of the shared center of gravity of the weighing pan,and a piece of mail arranged centrally on the weighing pan,and having the highest allowable weight and the largest allowable dimensions. The weighing pan has a back wall,for guiding the piece of mail and a transport unit for the piece of mail that simultaneously forms the bottom of the weighing pan.
