A method wherein a first workpiece () is loaded to a spindle () of a workpiece processing machine with the first toothed workpiece having a predetermined design and being in a predetermined rotational load position. The first toothed workpiece is stock-divided and a machining position is determined based on the stock-dividing. The first toothed workpiece is rotationally adjusted to the machining position. The teeth () of the first toothed workpiece are then machined and the first workpiece is removed from the spindle. A second toothed workpiece is loaded to the spindle of the workpiece processing machine. The second toothed workpiece has the same predetermined design and is in the same predetermined rotational load position as the first toothed workpiece. The second toothed workpiece is rotationally adjusted from the predetermined rotational load position to the machining position by the same adjustment amount as the first toothed workpiece. The second toothed workpiece is machined and then removed from the machine spindle. The process as performed for the second toothed workpiece can be repeated for subsequent workpieces having the same design and being in the same rotational load position as the first and second workpieces. For the second and subsequent toothed workpieces, the step of determining the rotary position of the teeth is not carried out.

Method and apparatus for loading and positioning a workpiece on a gear manufacturing machine

Cutting blade pressure angle changes or corrections in power skiving cutters () can be realized without the need tor a tool geometry change. An axial shift () of the blade reference point () will shift the existing involute on the blade profiles () into a different radial location. An accompanying shift (AR) of the reference involute profile () by approximately the same amount and in the same direction will re-establish the relationship between work gear and cutter. The resulting work gear geometry has the same radial location of the slots, with the same slot width and the same tooth thickness but with a changed pressure angle.

Power skiving pressure angle correction without tool geometry change

A method of grinding the tooth slots of a workpiece with a freshly dressed grinding wheel wherein dual-machining of tooth slots is eliminated. The method comprises grinding the first few slots of a gear at a corrected depth amount which accounts for the rapid wear and other conditions of the freshly dressed grinding wheel wherein for a first number of tooth slots (e.g. 1, 2, 3 or more), the grinding wheel is fed-in relative to the workpiece by the corrected depth amount.

A cutting blade for face milling wherein the cutting blade is constructed to cut a predetermined final dimension of a tooth slot along a portion of the cutting end (i.e. the primary cutting edge portion) of the blade and to cut the remainder of the tooth slot at an amount less that the predetermined final dimension of the tooth slot along the remaining portion (i.e. the secondary cutting edge portion) of the cutting end. The construction of the inventive cutting blade provides sharing of the cutting load amongst the blade cutting edges and also provides sufficient clearance in the tooth slot whereby the cutting blade can be repositioned to allow truing of the cutter, particularly with respect to the primary portion.

Manufacturing straight bevel gears

A method of machining at least one tooth flank of a gear with a finishing tool. The method comprises rotating the finishing tool, such as a grinding tool, and bringing the tool and the tooth flank into contact. Relative movement between the tool and the gear is provided to traverse the tool across the tooth flank along a path whereby the path produces a tooth flank geometry of a form which, when brought into mesh with a mating tooth flank to form a tooth pair under no load or light load, provides a motion graph curve that intersects, at least two times, a motion graph curve of at least one of an immediately preceding tooth pair and an immediately following tooth pair. The motion graph curve of the tooth pair describes contact between respective tooth flanks of said tooth pair from an initial entrance into mesh to a final exit from mesh as being over a gear rotation amount of greater than 1.0 pitch and preferably, about 1.5 pitch to about 3.0 pitch.
