A device cures a UV-curable fluid, such as offset or inkjet printing ink, on a substrate by way of an emitter. The emitter includes at least two flash lamps which are disposed in a row. This provides a cost-efficient way of evenly and homogeneously curing UV-curable printing fluids at low environmental impact. There is also described a printing machine with a device for curing UV-curable printing ink.

A method for printing on the surface of an object uses a print head generating ink drops to print at least a first swath and subsequently a second swath of ink onto the surface in such a way that the swaths are mutually adjacent and overlap in a strip. The first and second swaths are printed as solid areas and the swaths are XY stitched in the strip. In the strip, at least one of the two swaths is additionally stitched by using a function of an ink amount profile in a Y direction. High-quality or even highest-quality printed products can therefore be produced, in particular avoiding defects that are visible to the human eye in a region of overlap or a strip between swaths that are printed next to one another.

Method for printing on the surface of an object

A method prints and dries a substrate where ink containing water and pigment is printed onto the substrate in an inkjet printing process. The substrate has an initial moisture content and absorbs at least water of the ink, causing the moisture content of the substrate to rise. Radiation selectively acting on the water molecules is applied in a first drying step and then radiation selectively acting on the pigment is applied in a second drying step in such a way that after completion of the two drying steps, the water of the applied ink has essentially completely evaporated and the substrate has essentially reattained its initial moisture content. In this manner optimum drying of substrates to which ink has been applied occurs.

A system for printing an image, preferably a multicolor halftone image, onto at least one non-planar area of a surface of an object, for example a section of a body of a vehicle, includes an inkjet print head having nozzles, a robot, preferably an articulated robot, creating a primary movement, the primary movement including at least two printing paths of the inkjet print head being lateral to each other, and a device creating a secondary movement, the secondary movement being substantially perpendicular to the primary movement and causing the printing paths to laterally adjoin each other. As a result, undesired streaks between the printing paths may advantageously be reduced or prevented.

A device for supplying radiant energy onto a printing substrate (), including at least one radiant energy source () whose light () impinges on the printing substrate () on the path () of the printing substrate () through a printing press at a position () downstream of at least one printing nip () in a printing unit. A sheet processing machine, in particular a sheet-fed printing press, includes a varnishing unit and at least one combination drier for applying radiation energy and heated air to a newly varnished sheet. The at least one combination drier includes a plurality of circular or polygonal air nozzles and narrow-band high-power infrared light sources disposed between the air nozzles. The infrared light sources apply radiation at a radiation density of at least 25 kW/min total to the varnished sheet. The temperature of the heated air passing through the nozzles is below 100&#xb0; C., preferably below 80&#xb0; C. A method of drying sheets is also provided.

An image-recording device for generating image spots () by n individually controllable light sources (), which each have a distance s, i being=1 . . . n, to an object line (), in a projection line () of the object line () on a printing form (), which moves with a velocity component v normally to the direction defined by the projection line () and tangentially to the surface of the printing form. The image-recording device is distinguished by the triggering device () having an assigned time-delay device (), which delays the tripping instant of the triggering device for each light source () as a function of the particular distance s. The image-recording device may advantageously by used in direct imaging print units or printing-form exposure units.

An individually drivable array of single stripe laser diodes is proposed for imaging printing plates. An imaging optics is used to produce n image points which have a spatial interval l between adjacent points. An interleaving raster scan line method is indicated, which, given proper selection of the increment, enables each dot to be exposed exactly once.

A device for recording images on a printing form (), having at least one laser diode bar (), which includes a number of laser diodes () whose image spots () lie disjunctly in an image field (), and having an array () of microlenses () positioned in the emission region () of the light radiated by the laser diode bar, one microlens () being assigned to each optical path () of a laser diode (). The device is distinguished in that at least one first laser diode () and one second laser diode () are densely positioned on the laser diode bar () in such a way that the first optical path () of the first laser diode () and the second optical path () of the second laser diode () run through a first microlens () of the array. The device can be used, in particular, in a print unit or a printing press and, at a given width of the laser diode bar, makes it possible to provide a greatest possible number of imaging channels ().

An imaging method for a printing form (32) is described, with one or more laser diode bars (10) with n individually controllable laser diodes (12) each of which are assigned to one imaging channel, in which the laser diodes (12) of a laser diode bar (10) are divided into a main field (14) of m and into an auxiliary field (16) of (n-m) laser diodes (12) in such a way that an imaging channel (44) in the auxiliary field (16) with a matching feed that can be activated is assigned to each imaging channel (44) in the main field (14) that cannot be activated. In order to create a row (40) of m printing dots (38) on a setting line (36) at even distances a by means of the imaging channels (44), printing dots (38) are set by the main field (14) at a first time, and by the auxiliary field (16) at least at a second time. The imaging channels (44) are shifted relative to the printing form (32) parallel to the setting line (36) between the imaging times. Also, a method for the determination of the largest possible main field (14) with imaging channels (44) that under the circumstances cannot be activated is provided.

A device for spotwise imaging printing surfaces includes a laser light source producing at least one laser beam movable relative to a printing surface, the laser beam defining an image spot on the printing surface, the laser beam having a laser power. A laser control varies the laser power or an exposure time as a function of a distance of the laser light source from the image spot.
