An inking unit for a rotary printing press with inking rollers, at least one of which has a hard outer cylindrical surface, including a device having nozzles for applying fresh cleaning fluid onto the respective inking rollers and a device for squeegeeing cleaning fluid soiled with ink residues from the roller of the inking unit having the hard outer cylindrical surface, further includes a drip pan disposed beneath the nozzles and formed with a drain having a discharge end, the squeegeeing device being a doctor blade device and having assigned thereto a collection vessel wherein the drain discharge end terminates, the collection vessel being periodically removable from the printing press for emptying therefrom the collected cleaning fluid soiled with ink residues, and a follow-up trough assigned to the drain discharge end, the follow-up trough being swingable beneath the discharge end when the collection vessel is removed from the printing press.

Inking unit for a rotary printing press

A device for coupling and uncoupling inking unit and dampening unit drives in rotary printing machines is actuated with an operator-accessible control knob mounted at a printing unit. A sensor assembly detects a safety rest or safety release movement of the control knob preceeding a switching movement of the control knob. A control shaft is connected to and rotatable by the control knob. A cam member with a cam surface is mounted on the control shaft. The cam surface is followed by sensing devices which continuously sense the cam surface. A traverser bushing is axially movably mounted in the printing unit. Transmission members are connected between the control knob and the traverser bushing for converting a switching movement of the control knob to an axial movement of the traverser bushing. The axial movement of the traverser bushing is between defined positions which cause the inking and/or dampening unit drives to be engaged and disengaged.
