A circuit configuration is described, for starting an internal combustion engine, using at least one starter, which includes a starter motor, an engaging relay, a switching relay and a control relay, the control relay being able to be controlled by an ignition switch, the engaging relay being able to be controlled by the control relay and a current path of the starter motor being able to be switched using the switching relay. In order for the starter, for starting an internal combustion engine, to operate more accurately, and thus to achieve a longer service life, the switching relay is able to be controlled as a function of the occurrence of a specified event, at least in the switching-off process. This has the advantage that the switching relay is able to interrupt a current path from the starter motor earlier in time, especially a main current path, so that energizing in the reverse direction is avoided. Consequently, the switching relay is able to release the current path of the starter motor specified in such a way that in the switching-off process, during the disengaging of a starter pinion, pinion bounce is clearly reduced, or even eliminated. In the switching-off process of the starter, a motion of the starter pinion back in the direction towards the ring gear, after the disengagement, is avoided.

Circuit configuration for starting an internal combustion engine and method of a starter control

The invention relates to a starter () for an internal combustion engine, comprising a starter motor () which can be coupled to the internal combustion engine by means of a pinion (), and a device for engaging the pinion () in a gear rim () of the internal combustion engine and connecting the starter motor () to a DC voltage supply system (). In order to disconnect the sequence of operations, the device has separate means, in particular separate relays (), for engaging the pinion () on one hand and turning on the starter motor on the other when the internal combustion engine is started, thus preventing reactions of the engagement dynamics on the contact system when the motor current is switched.

Starter for an internal combustion engine

A starter device for cranking internal combustion engines, that has a terminal for starter control, having an electric starter motor, there being an electric supply line from a plus terminal of the starter device to the plus terminal of the starter motor, and the starter motor having an electrical ground return line at a minus terminal of the starter device, in which the ground return line is interrupted by a switch in the case of an electrical potential-free terminal for the starter control.

A circuit arrangement for an engagement relay of a starter mechanism of an internal combustion engine, for bringing two gearwheels in engagement, the circuit arrangement having a switching element which reduces a relay current after a first time period before meshing of the two gear wheels to a determined current value during a second time period, the switching element being formed as a controlling and regulating device which increases a relay current to a predetermined value to a third time period which starts when one gear wheel reaches the other gear wheel.
