A wireless sensor network (WSN) and a method of routing in a wireless sensor network (WSN) includes wireless sensor nodes for monitoring an environment and a base station having a WSN manager to which information about the environment is sent from the wireless sensor nodes via multiple hop communication. The method includes responding to an attack on the wireless sensor network by an adversary to locate critical nodes among the wireless sensor nodes by adaptively deploying a sequence of different routing mechanisms, by the WSN manager, to the wireless sensor nodes such that location privacy preservation (LPP) is protected by preventing detection of location of the critical nodes.

System and method of routing for location privacy preservation in wireless sensor networks

A system and a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium for executing a method of detecting road anomalies includes obtaining visual data of a road from an end computing device and inputting the visual data to a machine learning (ML) model that learns to detect and classify at least one road anomaly such as a pothole, longitudinal crack, transverse crack, or alligator crack. The class and a bounding box of at least one road anomaly are output. Multiple post-detection features of the road anomaly, such as an object box area, intersection of neighboring object boxes, union of neighboring object boxes are determined. When the road anomaly is detected across multiple sequential frames, a number of skip frames is determined based on a model fidelity distance (MFD) and a vehicle speed.

A method and system to control a cyber physical system using an observer-based controller including a detector to determine an occurrence of an attack on the cyberphysical system and to inform the observer-based controller via a signal. The observer estimates a system state of the cyberphysical system based on at least partial information about the cyber physical system. The observer-based controller is configured with a predetermined observer gain and controller gain. The observer-based controller is configured to control the cyberphysical system using an estimated error determination that is altered depending on a type of cyber attack. The observer-based controller is configured to control the cyberphysical system subjected to cyber attacks in both a forward channel connecting at least one sensor with the observer and a backward channel connecting the observer-based controller with actuators.

The method includes identifying, by each smartphone equipped with the smartphone clustering application, a cluster of neighboring smartphones equipped with the smartphone clustering application; determining a cluster head by each smartphone in the cluster; determining position by the cluster head; transmitting personal information by each smartphone to the cluster head; receiving the personal information from each of the neighboring smartphones by the cluster head; aggregating personal information with the personal information from each of the neighboring smartphones by the cluster head and generating aggregated personal information; combining, by the cluster head, its position with the aggregated personal information into a communication stream; identifying an access point by the cluster head; transmitting the communication stream to the access point; and transmitting the communication stream by the access point to a server side smartphone clustering application.

The two-level clustering structure is periodically updated. Only the super-masters are configured to communicate with the back-end server via a long-range connection to WLAN, while a short-range wireless interface is used for internal communications.

Aspects of the disclosure provide a method for restoring connectivity among partitioned segments in a partitioned wireless sensor and actor network (WSAN). The method includes placing batches of mobile nodes at locations surrounding mobile nodes previously placed within a damaged area of the partitioned WSAN, spreading the batches of mobile nodes, determining whether connectivity among the partitioned segments has been restored, and repeating placing batches of mobile nodes, spreading the patches of mobile nodes, and determining whether connectivity among the partitioned segments has been restored when connectivity among the partitioned segments is not restored. The method is based on a distributed dropping approach which introduces minimal disruption to previously deployed mobile nodes, and decreases total traveled distance a mobile node might move compared with a traditional central dropping approach. Thus, the distributed dropping approach can expedite the restoration process, reduce power consumption, and expand survival time of a WSAN.

Described herein is a method of deploying sensors by a robot in a geographical region. The robot receives a first instruction including information corresponding to the geographical region and a second instruction indicating one of a first manner and a second manner of deploying sensors. The robot computes a path to traverse the region in a plurality of steps, each step of the plurality of steps having a predetermined magnitude. The robot traverses until a stopping condition is satisfied. The robot deploys sensors at each traversed step size and further receives from each deployed sensor, information indicating absence of sensors in a neighboring area of the deployed sensor. Additionally, the robot repeats the traversing and deploying of sensors in the neighboring area to provide full coverage.

A system and method for a sensor-based monitoring that includes a computer system, smart nodes, and an RFID reader device. The system collects data to measure health condition of a plurality of people at an event. The computer system determines candidate cluster heads with above average battery level. The smart nodes determine a subset of the candidate cluster heads that are within communication range, retrieve battery level of the determined subset of cluster heads, and select a cluster head having the highest battery level. The selected cluster head announces selection as the selected cluster head, receives requests to join a cluster, reads sensor data of the body sensor in each joined smart sensor as collective sensor data for the cluster, and sends the collective sensor data to the computer system via the RFID reader. Information is collected from smart nodes in an efficient manner for large-scale monitoring systems.
