A method for communicating a plurality of numerical parameter updates of a machine learning model from a first node to a second node. The method includes dividing each of the parameter updates into a respective primary segment and one or more respective additional segments, wherein the primary segment of each parameter update is the segment that has the greatest influence on the value of that parameter update. The method further includes constructing primary packet containing the primary segments of each of the plurality of parameter updates, and one or more additional packets including the one or more additional segments of the plurality of parameter updates. The method further includes transmitting the plurality of packets from the first node, wherein the primary packet is transmitted with a higher priority than any of the one or more additional packets.

Communicating machine learning model parameters

A narrowband localization method including: concurrently transmitting, by a plurality of transmitters, a plurality of narrowband signals, wherein frequencies of respective narrowband signals are different from each other; receiving, by a receiver, a superimposed signal of the plurality of narrowband signals; and determining, by the receiver, a location of the receiver relative to the plurality of transmitters based on the superimposed signal received by the receiver.

Method and system for wireless localisation

According to an embodiment there is provided a method for managing wireless communication between a sending wireless device and a receiving wireless device in a wireless network, the method comprising the sending wireless device: transmitting to the receiving wireless device one or more uplink communications using a first transmission setting; determining whether a link quality of the communication link falls outside of a predefined range; and in response to determining that the link quality falls outside of the predefined range: determining at least first and second probing transmission settings that differ from each other and from the first transmission setting; transmitting a first probing transmission using the first probing transmission setting and a second probing transmission using the second probing transmission setting; receiving from the receiving wireless device a selection of one of the first and second probing transmission settings; and adopting the selected probing transmission setting for use with future transmissions to the receiving wireless device.

Transmission parameter probing and searching for agile link quality adaptation

A method for locating devices that transmit, backscatter or receive a wireless signal. The method comprising using each of one or more backscatter devices to modulate and backscatter a carrier signal transmitted by a transmitter. Modulating and backscattering the carrier signal generates a backscattered modulated signal comprising a sideband. The method further comprises receiving the one or more backscattered modulated signals with a receiver. At least one of the phase or amplitude of each sideband are used to determine at least one of: the distance between the transmitter and the backscatter device by which that sideband was generated, the distance between the receiver and the backscatter device by which that sideband was generated, and the sum thereof.

Backscatter location tracking system and method

A method is provided for localizing mobile tags using a system including a plurality of anchors located at known locations, the method including: transmitting a plurality of ultra-wideband (UWB) localization packets using respective anchors of the plurality of anchors, in which each of the plurality of localization packets is transmitted by a respective anchor of the plurality of anchors at a different respective delay time; and transmitting an update UWB packet with either an anchor of the plurality of anchors that does not transmit one of the localization packets, or with a mobile tag, in which the localization packets include no payloads, the update packet includes a payload, and in which successive ones of the plurality of localization packets and the update packet overlap with each other in time. A system for localizing mobile tags is also provided.

Localization and communication systems and methods

A method of transmitting a data payload from one or more network nodes. The method includes transmitting a first data packet from a network node of the one or more network nodes and subsequently transmitting a second data packet from the network node of the one or more network nodes. The first data packet includes a set of blocks arranged in a first order and the second data packet including the set of blocks arranged in a second order that is different from the first order. Each block of the set of blocks includes a different section of the data payload and the sections of the data payload included by blocks of the set of blocks together define the entire data payload.

Methods and systems for transmitting data payloads

A method of transmitting packets between a plurality of nodes of a network. The method comprising in each of a plurality of data timeslots, transmitting a data packet with one of the plurality of nodes and listening to receive the data packet with the remainder of the plurality of nodes. The method further comprising in each of one or more parity timeslots following the plurality of data timeslots, transmitting a parity packet with one or more of the plurality of nodes and listening to receive the parity packet with the remainder of the plurality of nodes. Each parity packet is derived from a set of the data packets transmitted during the plurality of data timeslots.

Communication between network nodes

Carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation is effected by transmission of contemporaneous bit patterns, detectable by a receiver. By analysis of periodicity of bit error occurrences at the receiver, a beating period caused by interference between the two transmitters can be identified. From this beating period, a measure of CFO can be obtained.

Carrier frequency offset estimation and elimination

A time synchronised network comprising a plurality of nodes, the plurality of nodes each comprising a receiver, a transmitter, a controller and memory storing program instructions. The plurality of nodes are suitable for participating in time synchronised data re-transmission within the network. The plurality of nodes comprise a plurality of source nodes, a plurality of destination nodes and at least one intermediate node. The plurality of source nodes transmitting data concurrently with the other source nodes via the respective transmitter in a first flooding round to a plurality of corresponding destination nodes. The plurality of destination nodes receiving data via the respective receiver from a plurality of corresponding source nodes. The intermediate node receiving, via the respective receiver, data from at least one of the plurality of source nodes, and re-transmitting the received data in the form it was received using the transmitter.

Wireless mesh network and data transmission method

A system and computer-implemented method for controlling transmission settings for one or more wireless devices in a wireless network. The method comprises: monitoring uplink communications from a sending wireless device to a receiving wireless device; determining one or more link quality metrics comprising a frame loss ratio and one or more signal strength metrics for the uplink communications; determining a link quality between the sending wireless device and the receiving wireless device based on the link quality metrics; determining whether the link quality falls outside of a predefined range; and in response to determining that the link quality falls outside of the predefined range, sending an instruction to the sending wireless device to update one or more transmission parameters to adjust a link budget for future transmissions by the sending wireless device to the receiving wireless device.

Link quality awareness for uplink transmissions from nodes to gateways

A multi-hop mesh network comprising a plurality of nodes, the plurality of nodes each comprising a receiver, a transmitter, a controller and memory storing program instructions. The plurality of nodes are suitable for participating in data relaying within the network. The plurality of nodes comprise a plurality of source nodes and a plurality of relay nodes. The plurality of source nodes advertise, via the respective transmitter at least one message in one or more advertising events, and adapt the duration of the advertising event. Each advertising event comprises the at least one message being advertised over one or more primary advertising channels. The plurality of relay nodes scan each of the one or more primary advertising channels to receive, via the respective receiver, the at least one message, and relay, via the respective transmitter, the at least one message, and adapt the duration of the scan of the one or more primary advertising channels based on reception of the at least one message during scanning.

Managed flooding for bluetooth mesh networks

A node comprising a receiver, a transmitter, a controller and memory storing program instructions. The node is suitable for participating in time synchronised data re-transmission within a network. The program instructions cause the controller, when executed by the controller, to receive, via the receiver an indication of other nodes in the network to which data is or is not to be re-transmitted, update a list of other nodes in the network to which data is or is not to be re-transmitted stored within said memory using the indication, determine, based on the list, whether to re-transmits data received from another node in the network and, when it is determined that said data is to be re-transmitted, re-transmit the received data using said transmitter.

Wireless mesh network and associated data transmission network

The present subject-matter provide a controller for a low-power, wireless, software defined networking, SDN, architecture. The controller comprises a processor and a memory storing instructions for execution by the processor. The instructions, when executed by the processor cause the controller to implement: a control layer arranged to detect a communication type for processing an application over the network, and translate the communication type into a plurality of phases chosen from a pre-defined set of phases to configure the nodes of the network to respond to the application according to the communication type.

Controller for, and a method of processing data over, a low-power, wireless software defined networking, SDN, architecture

According to an embodiment there is provided a method of radio resource allocation performed in a gateway or network server communicatively connected to a plurality of wireless nodes. The method comprises computing, for each spreading factor out of a number of spreading factors, a probability of successful receipt of an uplink communication from a wireless node from the plurality of wireless nodes based on spreading factor settings of the plurality of wireless nodes, determining, for a given link level budget, a spreading factor that provides a maximum likelihood of successfully completing uplink communications and determining, for the determined spreading factor, a transmission power that provides the given link level budget.

Collision aware radio resource allocation

Arrangements described herein provide a distributed means of scheduling communications directed towards a sink node from other nodes in a multi-hop wireless network. By listening for other messages assigning schedules to other nodes, each node is able to create its own local record of scheduled transmissions in its area. This allows each node to determine a preliminary schedule. Having said this, the parent node of the node will have additional information regarding the scheduled local transmissions. Accordingly, the node sends the preliminary schedule to its parent node for confirmation that it provides no collisions/conflicts with other scheduled transmissions. As the parent node is involved in the scheduling of each child node, it is better able to determine whether the child nodes are proposing schedules that may conflict with each other.
