A computer-implemented method, network management system, and network clients are provided for out-of-band network security management. The network management system includes routers, firewalls, and out-of-band interfaces. The out-of-band interface of the network management system transmits access control lists to network clients connected to a trusted network. The trusted network connects the routers, firewalls, and network clients. The firewalls receive access control lists from the network management system to police communications that traverse the trusted network and an untrusted network. The routers receive access control lists from the network management system to police communications that traverse the router within the trusted network. The access control lists for the routers and firewalls are transmitted over a network interface to the trusted network and are transmitted separately from the access control lists for the network clients.

A method is provided for designing a service which is made up of one or more service applications in which availability definitions are displayed on a graphical user interface in the class selection process. The method involves displaying classes and class definitions on a graphical user interface, selecting a class for each of the service applications, displaying an availability definition for each of the selected classes, and prompting a user to confirm the selection of the class based on the availability definition. If the selection of the class is confirmed, a design profile indicating the resources required for the class is generated and displayed. If the selection of the class is not confirmed, the classes are redisplayed.

A communication system for notifying persons of an emergency telephone call is provided according to the invention. The communication system includes a communication network configured to receive a user-initiated emergency telephone call from a caller. The communication system further includes a notification system configured to receive the user-initiated emergency telephone call from the communication network, select one or more proximity communication devices based on one or more predetermined proximity criteria, and generate a notification communication to the one or more proximity communication devices. The notification communication notifies the one or more proximity communication devices of the user-initiated emergency telephone call.

A multi-stage, multi-pole connector provides improved connectivity with electronic devices having mating receptacles of differing form factors. In one aspect, the connector includes a hollow base plug portion, a hollow tip plug portion, and a series of conductive lines extending within the base plug portion and the tip plug portion. Both the base plug portion and the tip plug portion share the same longitudinal axis and are each formed with one or more discrete conductive contacts electrically isolated from one another. The tip plug portion extends axially from the base plug portion and has a smaller outside diameter along the length of the tip plug portion than the average outside diameter along the length of the base plug portion. This configuration causes the connector to step down in form factor to a smaller cross-sectional size moving from the base plug portion to the tip plug portion.

Multi-stage multi-pole connector

A universal receptacle facilitates improved connectivity between electronic devices through plug-type connectors within a range of form factors. In one aspect, the receptacle includes an elongate, open ended chamber, a series of conductive terminals disposed in the chamber, urging structure for urging the conductive terminals inwardly towards a longitudinal axis of the chamber, and a series of conductive lines electrically coupled with the conductive terminals. The conductive terminals may be located within the chamber such that the urging structure places the terminals in physical contact with the plug-type connector when the connector possesses a diameter that is less than the diameter of the chamber. In this way, the particular degree of displacement of the terminals varies depending on the form factor or diameter of a particular region of the connector, while electronic signal pathways are maintained between the conductive terminals of the receptacle and conductive contacts of the connector.

A common axis, multi-pole connector assembly provides improved connectivity with electronic devices having mating receptacles of differing form factors. In one aspect, the connector includes assembly includes a single pin, hollow plug body, one or more conductive lines extending within the plug body, and a sleeve configured for sliding reception over the plug body. The plug body is formed with one or more discrete conductive contacts with which the one or more conductive lines are electrically coupled. The sleeve, which may be either formed as an insulative body or formed with one or more discrete conductive contacts, has an axial length that is less than the axial length of the plug body so that when the sleeve is installed on the plug body, a portion of the plug body extends out from beneath the sleeve.

Modular multi-pole connector assembly

A unitary connector system includes a single pin, multi-pole electrical connector having a plug body, as well as a mating receptacle. The plug body is formed of a series of discrete conductive contacts interposed with a series of insulative rings such that the insulative rings electrically isolate adjacent conductive contacts from one another, each contact thereby forming a terminal. A series of conductive lines extend within the plug body and are electrically coupled with the series of conductive contacts each representing a transmission channel. The universal nature of the plug body design allows for a specific number of poles to be chosen to handle the particular signal transmission requirements.
