Effect pigments and structural colorants incorporating fluorescent particles

Disclosed are potassium cesium tungsten bronze solid solution particles of the formula KCsWO, where x+y&#x2266;1 and 2&#x2266;z&#x2266;3. The particles are for instance micron or nano scaled particles. Also disclosed are organic or inorganic compositions comprising an organic or inorganic substrate and incorporated therein the present potassium cesium tungsten bronze solid solution particles. The substrates are for instance plastics, coatings, inks, adhesives, ceramics or glass. Also disclosed is a method for the preparation of the present potassium cesium tungsten bronze solid solution particles, which method comprises mixing a suitable tungsten source with a salt of potassium and a salt of cesium to form a powder mixture and exposing the powder mixture to a plasma torch under a reducing atmosphere. The present tungsten bronze particles are suitable NIR absorbers and heat shielding additives.

Potassium cesium tungsten bronze particles

Plastic films, fibers and articles are provided long-term antimicrobial activity with a combination of certain phenolic and inorganic antimicrobial agents. The plastic films, fibers and articles with antimicrobial activity exhibit superior resistance to discoloration, may be processed at high temperature, and maintain physical properties upon weathering, especially upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

Mixtures of phenolic and inorganic materials with antimicrobial activity

Disclosed are natural products composites protected against the deleterious effects of microorganisms comprising at least one natural product, at least one thermoplastic resin, and an effective amount of an antifungal agent. The composites are further advantageously protected against weathering and color formation by the incorporation therein of at least one light stabilizer and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of the oxides, hydroxides or silicates of Ca, Mg, Al and Zn. The light stabilizers are selected from the group consisting of the ultraviolet light absorbers and the sterically hindered amines. The metal oxide is for example CaO. The natural products are for example wood flour, flax, hemp, jute, kenaf, or rice husk. The thermoplastic resin is for example polyethylene or polypropylene. The antifungal agent and potential coadditives are incorporated via melt processing such as extrusion, co-kneading, pultrusion and injection molding. The antifungal agent is for example thiabendazole.

Natural products composites

Polyolefin compositions comprising a particular hindered phenolic antioxidant selected from the group consisting of tris(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)isocyanurate, 1,3,5-tris-(3,5-di -tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene and the calcium salt of the monoethyl ester of 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzylphosphonic acid, an oligomeric sterically hindered amine light stabilizer, a hydroxylamine stabilizer or trialkylamine N-oxide stabilizer, and, optionally, an organic phosphorus stabilizer, are effectively stabilized against degradation upon melt processing, long term heat aging, and exposure to combustion products of natural gas.

Stabilized polyolefin compositions

Concentrates of various classical biocides in a polyester carrier resin when incorporated into a substrate resin, preferably a polyolefin such as polypropylene or polyethylene, provide the substrate polymer which biocidal activity with superior resistance to discoloration (yellowing) than when the biocide is directly incorporated into the substrate polymer as a powder at the same total concentration.

A process for the production of polyolefin hollow articles comprises charging the polyolefin with a stabilizer combination comprising (a) at least one compound from the group of the organic phosphites or phosphonites, (b) one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of i.) hydroxylamine derivatives and ii.) amine oxide derivatives and (c) at least one compound from the group of the hindered amine stabilizers, filling this mixture into a mold, heating this mold in an oven to above 280&#xb0; C., such that the stabilized polyolefin fuses, rotating the mold around at least 2 axes, the plastic spreading to the walls, and cooling the mold while still rotating, opening it and taking the resultant hollow article out.

Stabilizer combination for the rotomolding process

A process for the production of polyolefin hollow articles comprises charging the polyolefin with a stabilizer combination comprising (a) at least one compound from the group of the organic phosphites or phosphonites, (b) one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of i.) hydroxylamine derivatives and ii.) amine oxide derivatives and (c) at least one compound from the group of the hindered amine stabilizers, filling this mixture into a mold, heating this mold in an oven to above 280&deg; C., such that the stabilized polyolefin fuses, rotating the mold around at least 2 axes, the plastic spreading to the walls, and cooling the mold while still rotating, opening it and taking the resultant hollow article out.

C., such that the stabilised polyolefin fuses, rotating the mold around at least 2 axes, the plastic spreading to the walls, and cooling the mold while still rotating, opening it and taking the resultant hollow article out.
