In one embodiment, a medical probe tracking system includes a first probe, a magnetic field generator to generate a magnetic field, and processing circuitry to measure first electrical currents between body surface electrodes and first probe electrodes, receive magnetic position signals from a magnetic field sensor of a second probe, compute first position coordinates of the first probe in a first coordinate frame responsively to distribution of the first electrical currents, render an initial 3D representation of the first probe in the first coordinate frame and then compute a current-position map with respect to a second coordinate frame defined by the magnetic field generator, find a transformation between the first and second coordinate frames, apply the transformation to the first position coordinates yielding second position coordinates, and render a modified 3D representation of the first probe according to the second position coordinates in the second coordinate frame.

Combining catheter visualization from different coordinate frames

A method for delivering a cell to a heart of a patient comprises the steps of providing an apparatus for intracardiac drug administration comprising a catheter wherein the catheter has at least one position sensor which generates signals responsive to the position of a catheter and a drug delivery device for delivering the cell. The catheter is inserted into a chamber of the heart at a site and the cell is delivered to the site with the drug delivery device in response to the signals from the position sensor. Typical cells useful for delivery are either myoblasts or myocytes. These cells may be utilized as either an expression vector for promoting angiogenesis or for cell transplantation and fusion through myogenesis.

Intracardiac cell delivery and cell transplantation

A catheter introduction apparatus provides an optical assembly for emission of laser light energy. In one application, the catheter and the optical assembly are introduced percutaneously, and transseptally advanced to the ostium of a pulmonary vein. An anchoring balloon is expanded to position a mirror near the ostium of the pulmonary vein, such that light energy is reflected and directed circumferentially around the ostium of the pulmonary vein when a laser light source is energized. A circumferential ablation lesion is thereby produced, which effectively blocks electrical propagation between the pulmonary vein and the left atrium.

Laser pulmonary vein isolation

A catheter introduction apparatus provides a radially expandable helical coil as a radiofrequency emitter. In one application the emitter is introduced percutaneously, and transseptally advanced to the ostium of a pulmonary vein. The emitter is radially expanded, which can be accomplished by inflating an anchoring balloon about which the emitter is wrapped, in order to cause the emitter to make circumferential contact with the inner wall of the pulmonary vein. The coil is energized by a radiofrequency generator, and a circumferential ablation lesion is produced in the myocardial sleeve of the pulmonary vein, which effectively blocks electrical propagation between the pulmonary vein and the left atrium.

Apparatus for intracardiac drug administration, including a catheter which is inserted into a chamber of the heart and brought into engagement with a site in the heart wall. The catheter includes at least one position sensor, which generates signals responsive to the position of the catheter within the heart, and a drug delivery device, which administers a desired dose of a therapeutic drug at the site determined responsive to the signals from the position sensor.

Apparatus and method for intracardiac therapy using sensor for heart wall thickness

A system for treatment of tissue, such as heart tissue, includes a laser source and a catheter having an optical waveguide which is operatively connected to the laser source. The catheter also includes a position sensor for generating position signals relating to the distal end of the catheter and an electrode for generating signals relating to the viability of the tissue. The system also includes signal processing circuitry for processing the position signals in order to determine position coordinates of the distal end of the catheter as well as the signals relating to the viability of the tissue for determining a viability map of the tissue. The system further includes a display for displaying the viability map.

A method for monitoring revascularization treatment provided to tissue, such as heart tissue, comprises the steps of identifying a location in tissue and positioning a catheter at the location. Electrical signals of the tissue are measured in order to establish pre-revascularization data wherein the pre-revascularization data is stored. Energy is imparted to the tissue with the catheter in order to create a channel in the tissue at the location. Electrical signals of the tissue are measured after creation of the channel in order to establish post-revascularization data. The pre-revascularization data and the post-revascularization data are compared in order to determine successful treatment to the tissue.

Intracardiac drug delivery

An apparatus for intracardiac drug administration of a therapeutic drug comprises a catheter having a distal end and a drug delivery device which is driveable from the distal end. The drug delivery device includes a needle and a spring-loaded mechanism operatively connected to the needle. The spring-loaded mechanism drives the needle out of the distal end of the catheter upon administering of the therapeutic drug. The spring-loaded mechanism returns the needle within the distal end of the catheter after the administering of the therapeutic drug.

Apparatus for PNR treatment, including an elongate probe having a distal end for engaging heart tissue of a subject, and a revascularization device, which imparts energy to the heart tissue for generating perfusion-enhancing channels therein. A sensor provides an indication responsive to the treatment, preferably by receiving signals generated by the body of the subject.
