A manually actuated valve in a four-speed automatic transmission includes a cam means for moving the manually actuated valve in response to driver selected operating modes of the transmission which allows fluid flow between the fluid source and the proper clutch apply piston to actuate the corresponding clutch.

A governor control valve is provided in which governor output pressure is varied in response to variations in vehicle speed by moving a valve member radially with respect to a ported shaft carried with a driven housing which drivingly carries a centrifugal force responsive weight mechanism. The ball valve and the weight mechanism are connected by a yoke member whose mass center is aligned with the axis of rotation of the housing and shaft.

Flyweight governor

A pair of piston valve members are slidably mounted in a housing rotatably engaging the output shaft of the automatic transmission. A first piston valve moves freely under the influence of centrifugal force within the housing to throttle line pressure from a pump in the transmission to a governed pressure level used for performing shifting functions within the transmission and the second piston valve member is spring biased against the influence of centrifugal force to prevent its movement under the influence thereof until a predetermined output shaft speed is reached whereupon it throttles the line pressure supplied by the transmission pump and directs it to a portion of the first piston valve to vary the operation thereof upon further increases in output shaft speed. The piston valves are arranged so that no mechanical connection between them is required to effect the two-stage operation and venting of fluid from each of the valves is effected in an outward direction to permit discharge of the contaminants under the influence of centrifugal force.

Two stage hydraulic governor

Automatic Power Transmission apparatus having output members extending in opposite directions to and generally parallel to the axis of rotation of the engine crankshaft. A transfer shaft has a gear on opposite ends thereof to transfer the output of one portion of the drive train back to another portion of the drive train which is located in general planar alignment with the input to the apparatus.

Power transmission driveline unit

Hydraulic governor having two centrifugal force controlled valves connected to a transmission output shaft. A relay valve is attached to the transmission case and connected hydraulically to the governor. Line pressure fluid supplied to the relay valve is modified to a value relating to the speed of rotation of the output shaft by the centrifugal force controlled valves in the governor.
