A user device includes an enclosure having an interior mounting surface for receiving one or more functional components. An antenna assembly has an electrical interface connectable to at least one of the one or more functional components. The antenna assembly includes a first half slot antenna angularly formed along both inner perimeter sides of a first corner of the enclosure.

A quick solder chip connector is provided that can include a body, a radio signal conductor housed in the body, and one or more grounding pins integrally formed in the body. In some embodiments, the radio signal conductor can include a first end configured to electrically connect to a first transmission line formed on a first printed circuit board and a second end configured to electrically connect to a second transmission line formed on a second printed circuit board and can provide a radio frequency signal path between the first transmission line and the second transmission line. The one or more grounding pins can extend from opposing ends of the body and can be configured to physically support the body and the radio signal conductor between the first printed circuit board and the second printed circuit board.

An antenna system that can reduce signal radiation in an unwanted direction while preserving signal radiation outside of the unwanted direction is provided. The antenna system can include a signal input source with a main antenna and a secondary antenna each electrically coupled to the signal input source. The main antenna can transmit a primary signal to produce a primary radiation pattern in response to a first portion of energy from the signal input source, and the secondary antenna can transmit a secondary signal to produce a secondary radiation pattern in response to a second portion of energy from the signal input source. The secondary signal can be amplitude modified and phase shifted to position the secondary radiation pattern to cancel out or reduce a portion of the primary radiation pattern extending in an unwanted direction while substantially preserving portions of the primary radiation pattern outside of the unwanted direction.

Systems and methods for reducing signal radiation in an unwanted direction

Systems and methods for improved Global Positioning System ('GPS') function employ two multiband, multiport antennas to receive GPS signals. The antennas also serve WiFi frequencies, and the system utilizes the received WiFi signal strength to correct the GPS reception pattern for detuning due to user contact or other factors. The correction is made via selective combination of the GPS signals from the antennas. In addition, a phase shifter in one of the signal paths is used to account for changes in device orientation and to maximize the upper hemisphere component of the GPS reception pattern.

A method for adjusting a graphical user interface on an electronic device includes receiving, from a detection element positioned at a backside of an electronic device, first data generated when a hand is positioned at the backside of the electronic device. Further, a one-handed or two-handed operation of the electronic device is determined based on the first data. A displaying of a graphical user interface on the electronic device is adjusted when the one-handed operation is determined.

The present application provides a multiplex antenna matching circuit and method for coupling multiple signal ports to an antenna via cascaded diplexers. The multiplex antenna includes a diplexer for coupling a single merged port associated with an antenna with two separated signal nodes. The multiplex antenna further including at least one cascaded sub-diplexer. Each cascaded sub-diplexer is associated with a respective one of the two separated signal nodes, where the cascaded sub-diplexer further couples the respective one of the two separated signal nodes with a respective two further separated signal ports.

A multiple band antenna has an RF coupling structure () and a resonant RF structure (). The RF coupling structure () has an RF connection () and an RF coupling end (). The resonant RF structure () has a first end () and a second end () and has a conductive perimeter () enclosing at least one slot area () configured to induce an additional resonant RF band for the resonant RF structure (). The first end () and the second end () are reactively coupled to a ground plane () to facilitate longer wavelength operation. Cellular phones () and wireless communications sections incorporating such antennas are also provided.

A material properties detection system (). The system can include an antenna () that is tuned for operation within a frequency band over which the antenna transmits. The system also can include a transmitter () that generates electromagnetic energy across the frequency band and forwards the electromagnetic energy to the antenna. An impedance measurement circuit () can be provided. The impedance measurement circuit can measure an input impedance of the antenna over the frequency band and generate measured impedance data (). The system can include a material characterization application () that processes the measured impedance data to generate a material characterization for a structure () to which the antenna is proximate. The material characterization can include a dielectric constant, a permittivity, a loss tangent and/or a permeability.
