In an embodiment, the present invention is a method for ranging which includes emitting an acoustic signal at a first frequency, monitoring for a first acoustic response signal at a second frequency, and responsive to receiving the first acoustic response signal within a predetermined amount of time, (1) calculating a first distance between a first device and a second device based on a duration between emitting the first acoustic signal and receiving the first acoustic response signal, and (2) broadcast a first message including the distance and an identifier.

A Bluetooth low energy (BLE)-based asset tag transmits a code that identifies an asset. A device is attached to the asset. The code is scanned with a scanner supported by the device. An advertising beacon is transmitted in an advertising packet having a payload with a Bluetooth low energy (BLE)-based radio supported by the device. The scanned code is automatically loaded into the payload. The advertising packet with the scanned code in the payload is periodically transmitted as a series of beacon pulses.

A system and method is provided for managing RFID readers. The system and method manages RFID readers by controlling the RFID readers to reduce interference between RFID transmissions. The system and method locates RFID readers, including mobile and fixed RFID readers, and controls the transmitting of the RFID readers such that proximate readers do not transmit simultaneously. This reduces the interference between RFID readers, and thus can improve the reliability and accuracy of the RFID system.
