Disclosed is an exemplary computer program application, system and method for a unified approach to managing data from heterogeneous sources. The system includes a central, semantic data storage basing on a directed labeled graph model, a module for accessing data sources by drawing access and mapping configuration from the data storage and loading the resulting data into the data storage and a unified user interface that treats each graph node in the data storage as a separate term, visualizes and modified the term's context in the data graph using configurable user interface widgets.

For operating system mobility across heterogeneous computing platforms, a method may include periodically identifying whether an operating system is active until a determination that the operating system is inactive. Upon the determination that the operating system is inactive, one of a plurality of boot profiles that are each stored in association with a respective one of a plurality of computing platforms may be selected. The at least one boot profile may be associated with a target computing platform. The selected boot profile may be used in a booting process for booting the operating system on the target computing platform.

Among other disclosed subject matter, a system for instantiating at least one solution includes a plurality of preconfigured templates representing operating systems and business systems and comprising preconfigured system images and data images, each of the preconfigured templates adapted for use in instantiating an instantiation system in any of multiple pools isolated from each other. The system includes an infrastructure service for customizing and configuring the instantiation system in one of the pools as instantiated using any of the preconfigured templates. The system includes a virtualization allocator that allocates the instantiation system to a selection from among physical servers and virtual servers.
