A sonotrode for an ultrasonic welding apparatus, having a lower portion of length u and an upper portion of length o, the upper portion and the lower portion adjacent on a longitudinal axis of the sonotrode, and the total length of the sonotrode in the direction of the longitudinal axis being u+o, the lower portion having a sealing surface oriented perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, the sealing surface contacting a material to be processed. The lower portion has a slot, wherein the slot extends from the sealing surface to a side of the lower portion opposing the sealing surface, such that the lower portion of the sonotrode is divided into a plurality of segments which lie adjacent each other in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis.

The present invention concerns an ultrasonic vibration system comprising a sonotrode which has two sonotrode end faces and a circumferentially extending lateral surface connecting the two sonotrode end faces together, wherein the sonotrode has an elongate core element and at least one wing element, wherein core element and wing element respectively extend from the one sonotrode end face to the other sonotrode end face in a longitudinal direction, wherein the wing element has a sealing surface which is provided to come into contact with a material for processing thereof and is connected to the core element by way of a plurality of webs spaced from each other in the longitudinal direction of the core element, and a converter which is optionally connected to the sonotrode by way of an amplitude transformer. According to the invention it is proposed that the ultrasonic vibration system is connected to a machine stand by way of a mounting connected to the lateral surface.

The present invention relates to an ultrasonic vibration system () comprising a sonotrode which has two sonotrode end faces (') and a circumferential lateral surface that connects said sonotrode end faces (&#x2032;) with each other. The present invention concerns a converter unit comprising an ultrasonic transmission element having a transmission surface for transmitting an ultrasonic vibration to a tool which can be fixed to the transmission surface or to a material which is in contact therewith in the longitudinal direction along a longitudinal axis of the ultrasonic transmission element, and at least one ultrasonic transducer for generating an ultrasonic vibration with a propagation direction which is not oriented along the longitudinal direction, wherein the converter unit has an ultrasonic natural frequency. To provide a converter unit having an ultrasonic transmission element which has a transmission surface for transmitting an ultrasonic vibration to a tool which can be fixed to the transmission surface or to a material which is in contact therewith in the longitudinal direction along a longitudinal axis of the ultrasonic transmission element and at least one ultrasonic transducer for generating an ultrasonic vibration with a propagation direction which is not oriented along the longitudinal direction, wherein the converter unit has an ultrasonic natural frequency with which a high vibration energy can be generated, it is proposed according to the invention that the ultrasonic transducer is arranged in the propagation direction in a region of &#xb1;&#x3bb;/4 about the longitudinal axis of the ultrasonic transmission element, wherein &#x3bb; is the wavelength of the vibration belonging to the ultrasonic natural frequency.

The present invention concerns an apparatus for ultrasonic processing of materials having an ultrasonic processing system comprising an ultrasound generator, a converter, a sonotrode and a counterpart tool and a feed unit with which the sonotrode and the counterpart tool can be moved towards each other or away from each other, wherein there is provided a force sensor with which the force that the ultrasonic processing system exerts on the materials to be processed can be measured. To provide a corresponding ultrasonic processing apparatus which allows a greater processing speed it is proposed according to the invention that the force sensor is a piezoelectric sensor whose output is converted into an electrical voltage by means of a charge amplifier and that there is provided a control device which either when the ultrasonic processing is not performing material processing short-circuits the piezoelectric sensor or adds a time-varying force compensation unit to the value measured by the piezoelectric sensor.

The present invention concerns a processing element for processing a material, like for example a sonotrode or an anvil, comprising a carrier surface which is substantially in the form of a cylinder or in the form of a segment of a cylinder and which is intended to come into contact with the material during processing, wherein the processing element is intended to be rotated about its longitudinal axis during processing so that the carrier surface rolls on the material to be processed, wherein arranged on the carrier surface is at least one structure element which projects beyond the carrier surface in the radial direction, wherein the structure element has a top side which is provided to come into contact with the material to be processed. The present invention concerns an apparatus for ultrasonic processing of a material web having an ultrasonic vibration unit which has a sonotrode and a converter connected thereto optionally by way of an amplitude transformer, and a counterpart tool, wherein for processing of the material web the web is moved through a gap between the sonotrode and the counterpart tool, wherein the ultrasonic vibration unit is fixed to a carriage moveable relative to the counterpart tool so that the ultrasonic vibration unit can be moved together with the carriage in the force direction, that is to say in the direction of or away from the counterpart tool, wherein there is provided a force sensor for measuring the force applied to the sonotrode by the material web. To provide a corresponding apparatus of the kind set forth in the opening part of this specification, which permits more accurate measurement of the welding force, in order to be able to continuously process by means of ultrasound even situations of use with an extremely small process bandwidth, it is proposed according to the invention that the sonotrode and the carriage are connected together by way of a sensor component which has the force sensor.
