The invention relates to a method for producing high-molecular weight polyesters, such as e.g. polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polynaphthalene terephthalate (PEN), polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) and/or polyesters of other dicarboxylic acids and diols including copolymers thereof. The invention relates likewise to a device for implementing this method. The latter concerns a single-stage tower reactor with which a method, comprising only two reactors, is made available for the total process.

Method for continuous production of high-molecular weight polyesters and device for implementation of the method

The invention relates to a method for producing high-molecular polyester such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polynaphthalene terephthalate (PEN), polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) and/or polyester of other dicarboxylic acids and diols, including the copolymers of the same. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out said method, the device being a single-stage tower reactor by which means a method involving only two reactors is carried out for the entire process.

Method for the continuous production of high-molecular polyester and device for carrying out the method

The present invention comprises a method of producing polyester transesterification of at least a dicarboxylic acid dialkyl ester or esterification of at least a dicarboxylic acid with at least a diol and subsequent precondensation and polycondensation in the presence of the usual catalysts, whereby the polycondensation and optionally the esterification take place in the presence of an additional carbon containing co-catalyst, preferably activated charcoal with a specific surface area of more than 500 m /g and an average grain size of less than 2 &mgr;m.

Method for the production of polyester with mixed catalysts

A process for the improvement of the drawing ability of polyester, pellets of which are thermally post-treated in the solid phase in an inert atmosphere, containing a precise concentration of water vapor. The water vapor concentration is equal to the amount of water, plus 15%/minus 50%, which could theoretically be formed, at the polyester end viscosity, from the --COOH end groups and the excess --OH end groups of the polyester. An equimolar quantity of the vapor of the alkanediol, which serves as the diol reactant for the polyester, may be substituted for all or part of the water vapor.

The present invention is a pre-oriented, non-stretched polyester fiber spun with spooling speeds of at least 3,000 m/min., wherein the polyester is a copolymer comprised essentially of ethylene terephthalate units and up to 10 weight % of other dicarboxylic acids or other diols, and carboxy phosphonic acid units of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is selected from C.sub.1-10 -alkylene, C.sub.1-10 -cycloalkylene or C.sub.6-10 -arylene, in a quantity corresponding to 30 to 500 ppm phosphorus, in relation to polyester. The invention also comprises a process for the production of this fiber.

Process of making poy polyester fiber

Process for the production of preoriented filaments from polyester-based polymer mixtures by spinning the polymer mixtures with a draw-off speed v of at least 2500 m/min, a second amorphous, thermoplastically processable copolymer having a glass transition temperature of more than 100.degree. C. being added to the polyester, wherein the ratio of the melt viscosity of the copolymer to the melt viscosity of the polyester is 1:1 to 10:1, in that the amount of copolymer added to the polyester is at least 0.05 wt. %, in that the maximum amount M of the copolymer added to the polyester depends on the draw-off speed v, and in that ##EQU1##

Process for processing polymer mixtures to filaments

The present invention provides a method of synthesizing polypropylene terephthalate with no more than 5 ppm acrolein and no more than 3 ppm allyl alcohol. The method comprises direct esterification of terephthalic acid with 1,3-propanediol in the presence of 30 to 200 ppm titanium in the form of an inorganic esterification catalyst containing at least 50 mol % TiO.sub.2 precipitate, blocking the esterification catalyst after esterification by adding 10 to 100 ppm phosphorus in the form of a phosphorus-oxygen compound, and then performing precondensation and polycondensation in the presence of 100 to 300 ppm antimony in the form of a conventional antimony polycondensation catalyst and optional conventional coloring agent.

Process for production of polypropylene terephthalate

The present invention is a pre-oriented, undrawn polyester fiber spun with spooling speeds of at least 3,000 m/min., wherein the polyester is a copolymer comprised essentially of ethylene terephthalate units and up to 10 weight % of other dicarboxylic acids or other diols, and carboxy phosphonic acid units of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is selected from C.sub.1-10 -alkylene, C.sub.1-10 -cycloalkylene or C.sub.6-10 -arylene, in a quantity corresponding to 30 to 500 ppm phosphorus, in relation to polyester. A process for the acceleration of the polycondensation of polyester made by the esterification of at least one dicarboxylic acid with at least one diol, precondensation, melt phase polycondensation, granulation, crystallization and solid phase polycondensation comprising the addition, prior to the precondensation reaction, of from about 30 to about 900 ppm phosphorus in relation to the polyester in the form of carboxy phosphonic acid of the formula: ##STR1## wherein, R is selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1-10 -alkylene, C.sub.1-10 -cycloalkylene, and C.sub.6-10 -arylene and R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1-10 -alkyl, C.sub.1-10 -cycloalkyl, and C.sub.6-10 -aryl, provided that at least two of R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 are hydrogen.

Process for the acceleration of the polycondensation of polyester

A zeolite polycondensation catalyst comprising an alkali- or alkaline earth metal aluminum silicate zeolite having an original water content of 12 to 30 weight % and a solubility, measured at 260.degree. C., in an esterification mixture consisting essentially of bis(hydroxy ethylene)terephthalate, of over 8.0 weight %, and an average particle size of less than 1.0.mu.. The present invention is also a process for the production of polyester using this catalyst.

Zeolite catalyst for the polycondensation of polyester

Process for direct production of shaped packaging material made of thermoplastic polyesters with no effect on the taste of foods packaged in them, where the diol component of the polyester consists of at least 70 wt % ethylene glycol, and the polyester is produced in the presence of the usual catalysts plus additional cobalt or cobalt and manganese compounds and phosphorus compounds. An inert gas is introduced into the polyester melt and distributed uniformly in the melt immediately after its discharge from the polycondensation reactor, 0.05 to 1.0 wt % of an amide compound with a low volatility is added to the polyester melt directly next to the gas inlet. Finally, the polyester melt is subjected to a vacuum degassing immediately before the shaping apparatus and the melt is sent directly to the shaping apparatus within a maximum of 30 minutes after its discharge from the reactor at a maximum temperature of 35.degree. C. above the crystallite melting point of the polyester.

Process for direct production of low acetaldehyde packaging material

The present invention comprises a new catalyst for the production of polyesters consisting essentially of a finely dispersed, large surface area titanium compound selected from hydrated TiO.sub.2 obtained by hydrolysis and having the composition yTiO.sub.2.zH.sub.2 O and from titanates having the composition (Me.sub.n O).sub.x.(TiO.sub.2).sub.y.(H.sub.2 O).sub.z, wherein Me is an alkaline earth metal or alkali metal. In addition, the present method comprises a process for the production of polyesters using this catalyst as an esterification or transesterification catalyst and as a polycondensation catalyst, whereby a phosphorous-oxygen-compound is added immediately before, during, or after the polycondensation.

Titanium-containing catalyst and process for the production of polyester

Process for adjusting the haze value of ethylene terephthalate homopolymers and low-modified copolymers to a value in the range of 0.5 to 20 NTU while they are being produced by direct esterification and polycondensation, where an amount of antimony and germanium catalyst that is determined on the basis of the desired degree of turbidity is added before or at the start of the esterification step in the absence of other catalysts and other compounds that would affect the haze value, and after achieving a conversion of 90 to 98%, another dose of antimony catalyst corresponding to a total added amount of Sb+Ge in the range of 160 to 350 ppm is added, and then after addition of the catalyst is concluded, a phosphorus stabilizer is added to the reaction mixture in an amount to correspond to 0 to 50 ppm phosphorus.

Process for thermal solid-state treatment of chips of saturated polyester, where the chips are crystallized immediately before the thermal treatment and the thermal treatment is carried out in a static bed at a chip temperature that is equal to TE (1 .mu.m) .+-.2.degree. C., where TE (1 .mu.m) is the temperature at which a measurement probe placed on a crystallized chip is lowered by 1 .mu.m under defined conditions in a thermomechanical analysis. The crystallization preferably takes place in a fluidized bed at three different specified temperatures.
