A forming machine according to the invention comprises at least one forming station having a punch and a die as tools and a device for setting the axial position of one of the two tools. The setting device has, as adjusting wedge, a rotary wedge disk which is rotatable about a rotation axis and bears with a bearing surface against a parent body. The rotary wedge disk is provided with an inclined plane on the other disk side. The setting device also comprises a pressure piece which is composed of a pressure part and a rotary part having an end face. The end face bears against the inclined plane in such a way that it is displaced relative to the rotary wedge disk eccentrically to the rotation axis when the rotary wedge disk is rotated, the axial distance between pressure piece and parent body changing in the process. Since the adjusting wedge is a rotary wedge disk, the bearing surface rotates on the parent body and is not displaced longitudinally during an adjustment.

In an apparatus for automatically transporting workpieces in a multi-stage forming machine, a tong casing (,) is fitted on a transverse transporting tube (,). The tong casing (,) comprises a tong-casing basic body (,) on which there are arranged exchangeable tong modules (,) each with one set of tongs by means of which a workpiece (W,, W,) can be seized laterally from above. Each set of tongs is connected, via a coupling location (,), to associated transmission means which, are in operative connection with a control shaft (,), mounted rotatably in the transverse transporting tube (,), for controlling the opening and closing movements of the tongs. The operation of transporting, from one forming station (U,, U,, U,) to the adjacent forming station (U,, U,, U,), a workpiece (W,, W,) seized by tongs with pairs of interacting tong grippers (,) and the operation of moving the tongs back take place by the transverse transporting tube (,) moving back and forth. The tong displacement can be adapted to the workpieces (W,, W,) by using tong modules (,) with tongs with suitable leverages.

The turning device has a guideway (13) which is formed integrally on the tong carrier (3) and in which is guided the roller (16) of an oscillating lever (15). The reciprocating movement of the guideway (13) is transmitted via the oscillating lever (15) to a pivot pin (14). The latter turns the portion (A) in conjunction with a counter-holder (22). The turning device is used on horizontal cross-transfer presses having a high production rate for metal forming starting from portions of wire.

In the proposed forming press, a reversal device (17 to 20) is provided on a retention pin (1) inside the male die part (4) of the press, which reversal device retains the retention pin in its two end positions (X.sub.1, X.sub.2) until said retention pin is moved by a transmission member (10) on the male die part side or by the pressed article (2) inserted in the die (3).

The proposed cross transfer device has two parallel support tubes (2a, 2b) which are displaceable in reciprocating manner in the workpiece transfer direction in the forming area and to which are fixed in each case an upper and a lower gripper box (3a, 3b). The two gripper boxes are used for the rectilinear guidance of gripper jaws (11) which interact in pairs, seize a workpiece at each forming station (U1 to U3) and can be transferred to the in each case adjacent forming station (U2 to U4) and released again. Transmission levers (6a, 6b) pivotably mounted in the gripper boxes (3a, 3b) are used for driving the gripper jaws (11), the pivoting movement of which transmission levers (6a, 6b) is controlled by a rotating camshaft (4a, 4b) which in each case is centrally mounted in one of the support tubes (2a, 2b) via antifriction bearings (15) and supporting pins ( 14). The cam members (5) of this camshaft are fan-type disks (5a, 5b) which can be adjusted in each case relative to the axis of rotation of the camshaft supporting it and relative to one another, so that each transmission lever (6a, 6b) can be individually set, independently of the further transmission levers provided, for controlling a certain gripper movement.

Device for the automatic transfer of workpieces on a multistage forming

A blank (17), which has been sheared off from a coil of wire or from a rod, is rotated through 90.degree., this rotation being required in connection with the forging of this blank. The gripping-jaws (19, 20), serving for the purpose of transport from one station to the adjacent metal-working station, are attached, for this purpose, to rotating devices (9c, 9d), which are mounted in a manner permitting rotation and are located, on the one hand, on a guide part (7a, 7b) which is driven to reciprocate (A) and to oscillate about an axis (93), and, on the other hand, are anchored to the stationary die-holder (3) via a guiding mechanism (23a, 23b). The guiding mechanism can be regarded as a spatial double-link mechanism, possessing a connecting rod (24), a coupling link (25), a stationary pin-joint (28), a ball-joint (30), and a pin-joint (29a, 29b) which travels with the rotation device (9c, 9d). The components are arranged in such a way that the greatest part of the intended 90.degree. rotation of the blank takes place in the first half of the translational transport movement.

Multi-stage metal-working machine

A gripper device comprises a gripper carrier which reciprocates towards and away from an upsetting station in a multi-stage upsetting press and at least one gripper for carrying workpieces. Each gripper comprises a pair of guide elements on the carrier and a pair of gripper arms each pivotally connected to a respective one of the guide elements to be driven thereby. The gripper arms are pivoted to one another at a point which is triangularly spaced from the points at which the arms are pivoted to the guide elements. The guide elements are arranged so that as the arms open to deposit a workpiece, they are moved bodily upwards in order to clear the upsetting station, the upward motion being at a minimum as the arms start to open and increasing steadily as the motion proceeds.
