A coordinate measuring machine for determining dimensional and/or geometric properties of a measurement object has a measurement element, which defines a reference point and is movable along multiple movement axes relative to a measurement object receptacle. The movement axes include multiple linear axes and at least one axis of rotation. In order to control the measurement element relative to a measurement object, desired positions of the reference point and parameters defining limit values for permissible velocities and/or accelerations are provided. Multiple individual temporal sequences of respective individual axial positions for the plurality of movement axes are determined as a function of the desired positions of the reference point and the parameters. The individual temporal sequences each have individual time intervals between successive individual axial positions. The individual temporal sequences are synchronized onto a common timing cycle, which uses the longest individual time interval in each case for each target position.

Determining geometric data of a conical measurement object comprises determining spatial coordinates at a plurality of measurement points of the measurement object. At least six spatial coordinates are determined on at least six different measurement points. Element parameters of a tangential conical substitute element are determined by means of a system of equations which describes difference values between the spatial coordinates and the tangential conical substitute element. The difference values are modeled by means of at least two difference parameters whose sum represents a perpendicular spacing between the tangential conical substitute element and a spatial coordinate. A method for correcting errors in a coordinate measuring machine having a measuring head which is adapted to move in at least two different spatial directions. Measuring scales and measuring lines are assigned to each spatial direction. The measuring lines of different spatial directions intersect, and correction values are determined along the measuring lines at predetermined values of the scales in order to correct for elastic and/or geometric errors of the scales and/or of the guiding mechanism for moving the measuring head. According to one aspect of the invention, the correction values determined along a measuring line of a first spatial direction are modified such that the modified correction value of this measuring line assumes a predetermined value at the point of intersection with a first measuring line of a second spatial direction.

The invention is directed to a method for controlling a coordinate measuring apparatus in accordance with desired data utilizing a movably journalled probe which continuously scans the surface of a workpiece in a scanning point in a preferred measurement direction (M). The invention is directed to a method wherein the probe head of a coordinate measuring apparatus is driven in a controlled manner in accordance with desired data. The control data, which are necessary for the control, are prepared in the computer of the coordinate measuring apparatus as a point sequence (S1 to Sm) from the geometric data (G1 to Gn) as, for example CAD data. These CAD data describe the work profile to be scanned. For this purpose, the computer encodes the speed profile which ensures a jolt-free movement and a measurement time as short as possible by appropriately selecting the spacings between the points (S1 to Sm) of the control data.
