A medical system includes a manual patient ventilation unit defining an airflow path arranged so that when the unit is applied to a patient the airflow path is in fluid communication with the patient's airway. The patient ventilation unit includes a ventilation bag configured to enable manual ventilation of the patient by a rescuer, an airflow sensor in the airflow path positioned to sense the presence of ventilation airflow and measure a gas flow rate in the airflow path, and a pressure sensor in the airflow path positioned to sense gas pressure in the airflow path. The system also includes a processor arranged to receive data generated by the airflow sensor and the pressure sensor and determine one or more ventilation quality parameters based at least in part on a gas flow volume calculated based on the sensed gas flow rate and gas pressures.

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to the use of spectral sensors during a cardiac arrest event. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to the use of spectral sensors for measuring changes in pH and muscle oxygen saturation to estimate subject down time and evaluating the effectiveness of the clinical treatment administered during a cardiac arrest event. Given the narrow window of time in which emergency treatment must be administered, as well as the lack of information concerning the subject's condition, there is a need for a fast and accurate method of estimating the onset of the cardiac arrest emergency and evaluating the effectiveness of the emergency treatment being administered.

In one aspect, a system for assisting with a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) treatment being administered to a patient includes a sensor for determining a parameter of the patient (e.g., indicative of a blood flow or pressure waveform), and one or more processors configured for receiving input from the sensor, determining, based on the input from the sensor, whether a rate of chest compressions administered in the CPR treatment should be changed, and providing an indication to a user that the rate of chest compressions should be changed.

An automated chest compression (CC) system is described that includes a chest compressor configured to administer chest compressions to a patient, at least one tilt adjuster configured to tilt at least the head of the patient to a tilt angle during the administration of chest compressions to the patient, a patient support structure configured to couple to the chest compressor and to the at least one tilt adjuster, one or more tilt sensors, and a CC device controller configured to control the chest compressor to administer the chest compressions at a resuscitative rate, receive one or more signals, from the one or more tilt sensors, indicative of the tilt angle, determine tilt angle information from the one or more signals indicative of the tilt angle, and provide the tilt angle information to a user interface, wherein the patient support structure is adapted to support the back of the patient.

System and methods for adaptive body positioning during chest compressions

A system for assisting cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) treatment of a patient includes a defibrillator system including a defibrillator communicatively coupled to a local computing device and configured to receive signals from treatment sensors, a patient support section, and a tilt adjuster coupled to the patient support section. The tilt adjuster is configured to communicatively couple with the defibrillator system, receive a control signal indicative of a target tilt angle from the local computing device, and automatically tilt the patient support section, around a transverse axis, to the target tilt angle in response to the control signal from the local computing device. The system also includes a chest compression device mount disposed on the patient support section and configured to adjustably secure a chest compression device to the patient support section.

An apparatus includes a medical device that includes a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) treatment feedback device, a memory, and at least one processor and a plurality of electrodes configured to provide at least an electrical impedance signal to the processor. The electrical impedance signal correspond to an electrical impedance measured at a chest of a patient. The processor is configured to receive the electrical impedance signal, process the electrical impedance signal to determine information representative of chest compressions performed by a rescuer on the patient during the CPR treatment of the patient, based on the processing, determine corrective action for the CPR treatment, and provide CPR treatment feedback comprising the corrective action at the CPR treatment feedback device.

A medical system for assisting with an intubation procedure for a patient. The system comprising airflow sensors configured to obtain data indicative of airflow in the patient's airway and physiological sensors configured to obtain information regarding airflow in the patient's lungs. Methods and devices are described, such as for chest compression depth measurement for CPR performed on infants and for allowing active decompression of a patient's chest during a release phase of a chest compression cycle. An anterior segment of a resilient wrap-around structure may be positioned on the patient's sternum, including a first motion sensor. A posterior segment of the resilient wrap-around structure may be positioned on the patient's back, including a second motion sensor. Chest compressions may be provided such that the first motion sensor moves in fixed relation with the patient's sternum and the second sensor moves in fixed relation with the patient's back. Active decompression may be allowed for, including the resilient wrap-around structure exerting an expansive force on the patient's chest wall during a release phase of a chest compression cycle and hastening expansion of the patient's chest during the release phase.

A medical device including a probe configured to be orally inserted into a lumen extending into the thorax of the subject, a plurality of electrodes, and a control circuit. The probe includes a first electrode. The plurality of electrodes includes at least one second electrode and at least one third electrode configured to be disposed externally on the thorax of the subject on a first side of a sternum of the subject and a second side of the sternum of the subject, respectively, the second side opposite the first side. A method for measuring a myocardial physiologic parameter according to an embodiment includes placing an at least partially convex portion of a spectral sensor against an intercostal space of a human over a heart of the human and measuring the physiologic parameter of a myocardium of the heart with the spectral sensor over time during an emergency medical event. The spectral sensor may be configured to determine and visually display a suggested position adjustment for directing the spectral radiation more directly toward the tissue of interest (e.g. the myocardium), and/or for placing the operative elements of the spectral sensor closer to the tissue of interest (e.g. the myocardium).

This document describes a system for determining positioning of an intubation tube in a patient. The system can include a first acoustic sensor configured to be disposed to listen to one of a lung and a stomach of the patient and to provide a first signal. The system includes a signal processing unit, coupled to the first acoustic sensor, configured to analyze spectral components of the first signal and determine whether a frequency of the spectral components of the first signal are characteristic of sounds induced by ventilation via the intubation tube of airflow to the lung or the stomach of the patient.
