The invention relates to a method for producing particulate composite materials. According to the method, solid inorganic or organic particle agglomerates or particle aggregates that are provided in a dry state, particularly in powder form, are first reduced in size in the gas phase or in a gaseous carrier medium in the presence of organic matrix particles by applying energy. The obtained comminuted particles are dispersed into the organic matrix particles, especially embedded thereinto and/or attached thereto. The composite materials produced in said manner can be used in many different ways and are suitable in particular for use in a large variety of plastic materials, coating materials, paints, and lacquers, especially coating powders, to modify properties during use in the corresponding products and similar.

The invention relates to a method for producing metal nanoparticles, wherein metal ions are reduced by means of at least one reducing agent in the presence of at least one polymer stabilizer and are converted into metal nanoparticles. The invention relates to surface-modified particles, more particularly inorganic-based particles having reactive surfaces, more particularly surfaces containing silane-reactive and/or siloxane-reactive groups, preferably hydroxyl-containing surfaces and/or particles comprising or consisting of metal and/or semi-metal oxides and/or hydroxides, preferably nanoparticles, which on their surface have a polysiloxane-based modifier having more particularly been reacted on their surface with a polysiloxane-based modifier, preferably with the formation of chemical bonds, more particularly covalent bonds, and also to a method of producing these surface-modified particles.

Surface-modified particles and production method

The invention concerns the use of cerium dioxide, especially in the form of discrete cerium dioxide particles with particle sizes in the range from 0.005 to 150 &#x3bc;m, as inorganic radical trap to stabilize organic polymers, especially in the form of polymer-based formulations, varnishes, paints, coating compounds, or the like, against their photochemically, thermally, physically and/or chemically induced degradation by free radicals, especially against the effect of UV, advantageously in an optional combination with at least one UV-absorber and/or at least one additional radical trap. The radical-induced degradation of the organic polymers is effectively prevented by the use of cerium dioxide without the cerium dioxide itself becoming degraded. If a combination of cerium dioxide with an additional UV-absorber or radical trap is used, its effectiveness is extended through the presence of the cerium dioxide.

Stabilization of organic polymers against free radicals

The invention relates to a method of dispersing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in a continuous phase, especially in at least one dispersion medium, the carbon nanotubes, especially without prior pretreatment, being dispersed in a continuous phase, especially in at least one dispersion medium, in the presence of at least one dispersant (dispersing agent), with introduction of an energy input sufficient for dispersing, and also to the dispersions that are obtainable in this way, and to their use. With the method of the invention it is possible for the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to be dispersed in high concentrations and with high storage stability.

The invention relates to surface-modified nanoparticles composed of metal or semimetal oxides or hydroxides and having been reacted on their surface with a modifier, with formation of covalent bonds. The modifier is a polysiloxane. The invention also relates to a process for preparing the nanoparticles, to their use as fillers in coating materials, plastics, foams and nail varnishes, and to dispersions which comprise the nanoparticles.
