The invention relates to a phosphor composition for lamps with a lattice of monoclinic crystal structure (monazite) of type (1&#x2212;g)[((1&#x2212;c&#x2212;a)*Ln, c*Ce, a*A)PO]&#xd7;g*GeO, in which Ln is at least one element selected from the group consisting of lanthanum La, gadolinium Gd and/or Yttrium Y and A is at least one activator selected from the group consisting of terbium Tb, praseodymium Pr and/or europium Eu, and 0&#x2266;a&#x2266;1.0; 0&#x2266;c&#x2266;1.0, and 0&#x3c;g&#x2266;0.2.

Phosphor composition for lamps

A process for producing a phosphate of the lanthanoids is described. The process is based on a two-jet precipitation, starting from separate reservoirs of a rare earth salt solution and a phosphate solution which are introduced simultaneously by separate feedlines into an aqueous acidified initial charge with stirring at a pH of 0&#x2266;pH&#x2266;1. After the solutions are added, the pH is raised to a pH of &#x3e;2 to complete the phosphate precipitation.

A discharge lamp () having a discharge vessel () which surrounds a discharge medium which emits electromagnetic radiation in the VUV region when the lamp is operating has, on the inner side of the discharge vessel wall, a first phosphor layer, which faces the discharge medium and comprises a UVA component which can be excited by the VUV radiation and is intended to emit electromagnetic radiation in the UVA region. A second phosphor layer, which can be excited by the UVA radiation and is intended to emit electromagnetic radiation in the visible region either lies beneath the first phosphor layer or is applied to the outer side of the discharge vessel wall. This results in a lower color locus shift compared to a conventional phosphor mixture, which can be excited directly by VUV radiation.

A discharge lamp () having a discharge vessel () that surrounds a discharge medium that emits electromagnetic radiation in the VUV region during operation of the lamp, has on the inner side of the discharge vessel wall a yellow phosphor layer facing the discharge medium, and a blue phosphor layer lying therebelow. By contrast with a conventional three-band phosphor mixture, a higher luminous flux and a smaller color locus displacement are thereby achieved.

An aluminum oxide particle mixture for reflection layers in discharge lamps, and to discharge lamps of this type. The mixture has a first coarse-grained component and a second fine-grained component, with a primary grain size of preferably d(1) between 0.3 &#x3bc;m and 0.5 &#x3bc;m and d(2) of at most 0.05 &#x3bc;m, respectively (with an agglomerated size of the fine particles of less than 0.15 &#x3bc;m).

Reflection layers formed from an aluminum oxide particle mixture

The invention proposes a dielectric barrier discharge lamp having a phosphor mixture and improved color rendering. The phosphor mixture comprises at least the phosphor components A: cerium-activated yttrium aluminate (YAlO:Ce) and B: europium-activated barium magnesium aluminate (BaMgAlO:Eu). To further improve the color rendering and to match the emission spectrum to the spectral sensitivity of film, the phosphor mixture optionally also comprises the phosphor component C: cerium- and manganese-activated gadolinium magnesium zinc pentaborate (Gd(Zn,Mg)BO:(Ce, Mn)) and/or the phosphor component D: europium-activated strontium aluminate (SrAlO:Eu).
