A mechanism for actuating a universal bar of a typewriter from a continuously rotatable drive shaft comprises a principal lever cooperating with the universal bar and carrying a catch able to occupy an active position in the trajectory of a peripheral projection of the drive shaft and a rest position out of this trajectory. The principal lever additinally carries a locking lever cooperating with a control lever of the catch, the latter being connected to the control lever by a spring biasing them relative to one another into an angular position defined by abutments. A fixed stop is disposed in the path along which the control lever moves during an actuating movement of the principal lever in response to engagement of the catch by the projection. When the control lever abuts this stop, it returns to a position for locking the catch while the catch is still in engagement with said projection. Unlocking of the catch to move to its active position is provided by a slide rod having a shoulder for actuating the locking lever. The slide rod can have a second shoulder for permanently unlocking the catch to provide repeated operation of the universal bar.

Mechanism for actuating a member of a typewriter

Angular displacements of a rotary member in, for example, a typewriter are controlled by moving a guide roller to shorten and lengthen the path of an elongate flexible member attached at one end to a rotatable stationary pulley and at its other end to an attachment piece, this member being a belt having notched ends one engaging a toothing on a part of the pulley and the other an arcuate toothed segment forming the attachment piece.

Transmission mechanism, notably for typewriters

Depressing the upper case shift key lever pivots a balance beam from a first to a second position, thereby raising the lower case shift lever to an inactive position. When the upper case shift key lever is released, the balance beam is returned to its first position, causing the lower case shift lever to fall to its active position.

Typewriter shift mechanism

A mechanism for controlling functions such as step-by-step carriage return, line spacing and rapid carriage return in a typewriter comprises a single cam adapted to oscillate a single actuating member. The actuating member carries a selector which can be positioned to selectively actuate levers controlling the various functions. The selector is positioned by a single lever which is tilted by different amounts by sliding bars each associated with a key corresponding to a given function. In its rest position, said lever locks the actuating member with the cam disengaged from a driving roller.
