A shifting arrangement for an automatic transmission has a selector lever guided in a shifting channel by which various transmission gears can be preselected. The forward gears can be shifted by hand by a manual gear selecting device. The gear selecting device is arranged on the selector lever or is constructed, for example, as a steering column switch. An electronic control unit controls the automatic as well as the manual gear selection.

A shifting arrangement for an automatic transmission of a motor vehicle controlled by an electronic control unit has a selector lever, the pivoting of which into a first shifting path, allows driving positions to be preselected, each driving position having various transmission gears which are to be shifted automatically. If the selector lever, by way of a transverse path, is changed over into a second shifting path which is parallel to the first shifting path, the transmission gears may be shifted manually by a pivoting in the second shifting path. In order to ensure a stable and vibration-free bearing of the shifting arrangement, the selector lever is disposed in a hollow frame which includes a pot-shaped bottom part made of a light metal casting and a cover plate screwed to the top of the bottom part.

A shifting arrangement of an automatic transmision of a motor vehicle has a selector lever which can be pivoted in two shifting paths. In the first shifting path of the selector lever, various operating positions and automatically shifting gears of the transmission may be selected via a transmitting device. The selector lever can be changed over into a second shifting path in which, by a one-time pivoting of the selector lever from a center position, an upshifting or return shifting may take place by one gear respectively. A locking device interacts with the transmitting device so that the transmitting device, from which the selector lever is separated in the second shifting path, is held in its intended position.

The first and second indicating elements are advantageously arranged in two vertical parallel rows in an indicating instrument of the motor vehicle.

A bearing of an idler gear of an all-wheel transfer transmission that mates with a drive gear wheel and an output gear wheel to one vehicle axle is provided with a bush that is clamped in between two housing walls. The idler gear is disposed on tapered roller bearings which are disposed on the bush. A screw that passes centrally through the bush is tightened by a nut and as a result braces the inner races of the tapered roller bearings and places the tapered rollers without play against the running surfaces of the idler gear.
