For bio-electrically generating electric power from organic ingredients of a waste water flowing in a flow direction, an anode is immersed in the waste water in a first spatial area, and oxygen is supplied to a cathode which is electrically connected to the anode and arranged in a second spatial area delimited from the first spatial area by means of a proton-permeable membrane. A voltage between the anode and the cathode is increased by a DC/DC converter located at the anode and the cathode, and a further voltage between a further anode in said or a further first spatial area and a further cathode in said or a further second spatial area is increased by a further DC/DC converter located at the further anode and the further cathode. A DC voltage link is charged with the DC/DC converter and the further DC/DC converter connected in parallel to the DC voltage link.

Method and apparatus for bio-electrically generating power from organic ingredients of a waste water

An improved process for the hydration of C-Colefins to the corresponding alcohols via heterogeneous reactive extraction with ion exchange resin catalysts is provided. The improvements are based on the application of a structured catalytic packing, a simultaneous product extraction in multiple condensed phases for enhancement of the overall alcohol production rate and a simplified product purification procedure.

Disclosed are porous polymer/carrier solid phase reactants which consist of a polymer that consists of fine particles and is situated in the pore space of porous carrier materials. Reactive groups are bound to the polymer. Said groups act as reactants in organic-chemical syntheses. Said solid phase reactants can be produced as bulk material or tubes, plates or rods, can be built in pressure sealed housings and can be used in flow-through apparatuses or microtitration fields for the synthesis of organic products. Potential active agents can be produced at high speed by using the inventive porous polymer/carrier solid phase reactants that can be flown through convectively, whereby production requires only little isolation and cleaning.

The invention concerns a device and a method for carrying out fluorescence immunoassays, wherein from at least one light source light is directed onto a surface at one end of a light waveguide and with the light coupled into the light waveguide by evanescent field excitation at the surface of the light waveguide fluorescence of at least one labelling substance bound to a chemical or biochemical partner of a general receptor-ligand system is excited. The solution according to the invention is here to provide a possible way of carrying out fluorescence immunoassays with high accuracy of measurement at low cost and within a short time. To achieve this object, the fluorescent light is decoupled from the light waveguide and directed via an optical system onto an optical detector with which the intensity of the fluorescent light is measured. Here the light waveguide is held in a measuring chamber formed in a piston of a piston and cylinder unit, and the measuring chamber is connected to the interior of the cylinder by an inlet formed in the piston.
