A method for measuring the injection rate of an injection valve for liquids, preferably for liquid fuel, in which the injection valve injects the liquid into a liquid-filled measurement volume, the measurement volume being closed off on all sides and a pressure sensor being located in the measurement volume. From the measured pressure values or by a separate measurement, the speed of sound is determined and thus the injection quantity or the course over time of the injection rate is calculated. The apparatus includes a measurement volume, an injection valve, which protrudes with at least one injection opening into the measurement volume, and a pressure sensor, which is located in the pressure node of the first natural pressure oscillation of the measurement volume.

Pressure is introduced into the vessel utilizing a pressure source having operating variables which vary during operation of the pressure source. The invention is directed to a flow sensor having a heater, two temperature measuring sensors, a heater temperature sensor and a medium temperature sensor. A control circuit is provided which controls the overtemperature of the heater in dependence upon the temperature of the flowing medium. With this arrangement, the influence of the temperature dependency of the following on the sensor characteristic are compensated: viscosity, thermal conductance and thermal capacity of the medium. The relationship between the heater temperature and the temperature of the medium is adjusted in a slightly nonlinear manner by means of special evaluation circuits. In this way, a further improvement of the temperature compensation is obtained.

An apparatus for determining the flow rate of a flowing medium having a substrate fastened at one end with a resistor arrangement disposed on the substrate which includes a layer-like measuring resistor (R.sub.S) and a layer-like heating resistor (R.sub.H). The heating output is regulated such that the measuring resistor (R.sub.S) has a constant electrical resistance, representing a flow rate of the flowing medium. By suitable provisions, such as a meandering pattern for the heating resistor (R.sub.H), the local resistance of the heating resistor (R.sub.H) crosswise to the flow direction is made to decrease toward the fastened end. Thus, the temperature generated by means of the heating resistor (R.sub.H) inside the substrate and the measuring resistor (R.sub.S) decreases toward the fastened end.

An apparatus for determining the flow rate of a flowing medium having a substrate as a carrier and a resistor arrangement disposed on the substrate which among other elements includes a layer-like measuring resistor (R.sub.H) as well as a likewise layer-like heating resistor (R.sub.S), the heating output of which is regulated such that the measuring resistor (R.sub.H) has a constant temperature, the heating output of the heating resistor (R.sub.S) being a standard for the flow rate of the flowing medium. With this disposition of the measuring resistor (R.sub.H), soiling of the substrate affects the measurement result only slightly.

A device which serves to measure the mass of a flowing medium, in particular the mass of the air aspirated by an internal combustion engine. The device includes a substrate on the bottom and top of which there is disposed a respective temperature-dependent resistor electrically connected in parallel and preferably embodied as a film, on both sides of which at peripheral areas low-impedance electrical conductor tracks are provided. The peripheral areas of the substrate are partially encompassed by U-shaped deformations provided on metallic retainers. The retainers simultaneously serve as electrical connections via soldered areas provided between the U-shaped deformations and the conductor tracks. The retainers protrude into the flow of the medium and have good thermal conductivity, so that they are virtually at the temperature of the flowing medium, and hence the temperature of the peripheral areas is also kept at the temperature of the flowing medium. To reinforce this effect, additional thermal conduction surfaces on the retainers or further thermal conduction elements which have good thermal conductivity, can be provided. With the temperatures of the peripheral areas kept to the temperature of the flow of the medium, short startup and response times are provided by the device even when there are sudden major changes in the mass of the flowing medium.

An apparatus for measuring the rate of flow of a fluid such as for measuring the quantities of intake air of internal combustion engines. The apparatus includes a first conductive film and a second conductive film applied to a substrate and which are in thermal contact with one another and are introduced into the flowing medium. The resistance value of the first film is sensed by the resistance-measuring arrangement and, by applying energy, the control function regulates the first film to a temperature dependent on at least the quantity of air flowing past.
