A lead alloy anode for a cell for the electrowinning or electrolytic recovery of zinc consists of 0.05 to 0.25% by weight strontium and/or 0.05 to 0.1% by calcium in combination with 0.1 to 0.5 silver, balance lead. The cell is used in a method for the recovery of zinc at, for example, a current density of 160 to 630 amp/m.sup.2, a temperature of 30.degree. to 46.degree. C. and an electrolyte containing 40 to 70 g/l zinc and 165 to 220 g/l sulfuric acid.

Method of electrolytically recovering zinc

A low-antimony lead alloy for use in the manufacture of paste-holding grids for lead-acid storage batteries contains 0.05 up to but less than 1.5 percent antimony. Such alloys represent an optimum combination of good processability, freedom from need for maintenance, low self-discharge rate and high cycle strength.

Low-antimony lead alloy

A belt-type metal-casting machine comprises a metallic casting belt, preferably of steel, having its side turned toward the melt formed with a heat-lagging (thermal-insulating) layer upon which at least one abrasion-resistant cover layer is applied. The cover layer consists of one or more metals whose fusion temperature or melting point in Kelvin .degree. is equal to or greater than 0.7 times the melting temperature, in .degree.K, of the casting metal to be applied.

Method for preparing a continuous casting belt

A lead-antimony alloy is disclosed containing 0.5-3.5% by weight antimony, 0.025-0.3% by weight arsenic, 0.005-0.1% by weight selenium, 0.002-0.05% by weight tin, 0.01-0.1% by weight copper, balance lead. The alloy also preferably contains from 0.025-0.1% by weight silver.
