The invention relates to a method of measuring the eccentricity of a waveguide embedded in a cylindrical connector pin. The optical center of the end face of the waveguide is introduced into the mechanical axis of rotation of a distance sensor scanning the outer surface of the connector pin. Subsequently, the eccentricity of the waveguide is determined from the measuring values obtained during the relative rotation of the distance sensor along the outer surface of the connector pin.

The connection end of a light waveguide (LWG) is bonded to a holder for use in coupling the LWG to a plug connector. Two axially extending centering surfaces are provided which enable aligning the connection end of the LWG in a guide groove of the connector. Such centering surfaces are exposed axial zones of the glass sheath layer of the LWG, in which zones the outer primary coating of the LWG have been removed. Removal thereof is preferably effected by a cutting tool.

The invention relates to a plug connector for the ends of two light waveguides (LWG) which are connected to holders and are pressed in the guide groove of a guide element and are pressed against each other with their end faces by means of an elongate resilient element. In order to substantially avoid damage of the LWG in the coupling process and to ensure a constantly good and low-damping optical connection, the guiding devices are constructed so that at least one of the ends of the LWG (2) can first be moved with a free space over the guide groove over such a distance to the other LWG (1) that a small axial distance remains between the end faces of the LWGs (1, 2) that the LWG (2), while maintaining a small axial distance, is then pressed into the guide groove and that by further movement of the LWG (2) in the guide groove a resilient engagement of the end faces of the LWGs (1, 2) to be connected is then obtained (FIG. 1).

The invention relates to a plug pin for a light waveguide (LWG) which can be plugged in a pin bushing, comprising a core tube having a central aperture into which core the LWG can be inserted and which tube is enveloped by a sleeve made of a material which is softer than that of the core tube and which has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion. A plug connection which is low-loss in a large temperature range is obtained in that the wall thicknesses of the sleeve (3) and of the core tube (2) are proportioned so that the resulting coefficient of thermal expansion of the plug pin corresponds substantially to the value of the material of the pin bushing (4).
