A method for processing data in an Ethernet protocol stack is disclosed. The method includes receiving client data for transmission via an Ethernet bus, and selectively transmitting the client data over the Ethernet bus by one of packet switching or non-packet-switching transmission based on an identity of the originating client device.

Processing data in an Ethernet protocol stack

A technique is provided for providing control messages to one or more nodes included in an optical transmission network. The technique includes receiving, at a node, a container comprising a container header and a container payload portion. The container header comprises information regarding a destination node of the container, and the container payload portion includes one or more data portions comprising information associated with one or more client data packets and a control data portion. The control data portion is associated with one or more control messages and a forward error correction (FEC) information to protect the one or more control messages against transmission errors. The control data portion is decoded taking into account the FEC information. The one or more control messages included in the decoded control data portion are provided at the node.

Method and apparatus for transmitting control messages in an optical transmission network

Embodiments relate to a method for generating a second data packet for a second network layer from a first data packet including a first header portion with information related to a first network layer higher than the second network layer. The method comprises generating, based on the first header portion, a second header portion including information related to the second network layer and generating a payload portion including the first data packet. Method for configuring network elements to delegate control of packet flows in a communication network

In order to configure a network for optimized transport of packet data traffic, a first packet node determines whether a traffic volume to be forwarded to a remote second packet node exceeds a predefined bypass threshold. If that is the case, the first packet node sends a bypass request towards the remote second packet node. An intermediate third packet node processes the request and determines, whether it locally has an interfering second bypass request and in this case, determines which of the two requests has a higher weight. The bypass request or, in case of an interfering second bypass request, the one with the higher weight, is then forwarded to the remote second packet node. Upon receipt thereof, the second packet node determines whether the received bypass request can be served. If that is the case, the bypass will be executed by sending a trigger to a service layer network to establish a bypass connection in accordance with the bypass request.
