A method of making mounting mats comprising the steps of: (i) supplying inorganic fibers through an inlet of a forming box having an open bottom positioned over a forming wire to form a mat of fibers on the forming wire, the forming box having rollers for breaking apart clumps of fibers and an endless belt screen; (ii) capturing clumps of fibers on the endless belt; (iii) conveying captured clumps of fibers on the endless belt so as to enable captured clumps to release from the belt and be broken apart by the rollers; (iv) transporting the mat of fibers out of the forming box by the forming wire; and (v) compressing and restraining the mat of fibers to thereby obtain a mounting mat having a desired thickness suitable for mounting a pollution control element in a pollution control device.

Method of making mounting mats for mounting a pollution control panel

A mounting mat for a pollution control device is disclosed. The device comprises at least a first sheet and a second sheet and at least one holding means for holding the at least first and second sheets together. The holding means are adapted to (i) hold the at least first and second sheets together while allowing movement of the at least first and second sheets parallel to each other in the region where the holding means is positioned; and/or (ii) to break upon wrapping around a body thereby allowing movement of the at least first and second sheets parallel to each other in the region where the holding means is positioned. A pollution control device containing such a mat and method of making a pollution control device containing such a mat are also disclosed.

Mounting mat

The present invention relates to a fiber mat, preferably a non-intumescent, polycrystalline, needle-punched or stitchbonded aluminia-silica fiber mat, which contains an organosilicon compound. The fiber mat comprises a fiber blanket which is essentially free of organic binder and which is impregnated with an organosilicon compound selected from the group consisting of siloxane compounds, alkoxy group-containing silanes, hydrolysates and condensates of these compounds, and combinations thereof. In a further embodiment the fiber mat comprises a high friction coating on at least the side of the mat which is to be brought in contact with a pollution control element of a pollution control device. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a pollution control device containing such a fiber mat.

The present invention relates to a fiber mat, preferably a non-intumescent, polycrystalline, needle-punched or stitch-bonded aluminia-silica fiber mat, which contains an organosilicon compound. A pollution control device suitable for use with an internal combustion engine (e.g., a diesel engine) and comprising a pollution control element arranged in a casing with non-woven mat disposed between the casing and the pollution control element, said non-woven mat being a non-intumescent mat comprising at least 90% by weight based on the total weight of the mat of chopped magnesium aluminum silicate glass fibers that have a number average diameter of 5&#x3bc; or more and a length of 0.5 to 15 cm, said glass fibers being needle punched or stitch bonded and said mat being free or substantially free of organic binder.

Mat for mounting a pollution control element in a pollution control device for the treatment of exhaust gas

The invention provides a process for bonding a pressure-sensitive adhesive to a rubber article. The process includes the steps of heat laminating a heat-activatable adhesive bearing a primer layer to the rubber article at a temperature of at least 100&deg; C. and bonding the pressure-sensitive adhesive to the primer layer. The invention also provides an assembly comprised of a shaped rubber article heat laminated to an adhesive bearing a primer. The invention also provides article of manufacture for bonding a rubber article to a surface.
