In order to achieve a universal, flexible and highly integrated operating device for driving various lamps, ensuring the protection of the entire operating device and of the appliances connected thereto by means of staggered protective measures at both the input and the output, starting from the preamble of claima first branch for connecting a lamp to a first of the interface circuits (SS) and a second branch for connecting at least one communication module to a second of the interface circuits (SS) are connected to the coarse protection circuit (G) which short-circuits an overvoltage of the mains voltage occurring at the input of the operating device. In the first branch, a line filter (NF) is connected to the coarse protection circuit (G) and a clamp circuit (K) consisting of the fine protection circuit (F) and of a first energy absorber (E) is connected to the line filter (NF). When the residual pulse voltage is too high, the fine protection circuit (F) activates the first energy absorber (E), the overvoltage pulse is short-circuited and the short-circuit is deactivated again when the mains voltage reaches the next zero crossing. Moreover, the first interface circuit (SS) comprises a protection circuit (&#xdc;S) against overvoltage and overcurrent, and an intermediate protection circuit (M) consisting of a transmitter (&#xdc;) and of a first fine protection circuit (F) is connected to the coarse protection circuit (G) in the second branch. A filter (FK) for separating communication signals fed in parallel into the power supply grid is connected to the first fine protection circuit (F) and a second fine protection circuit (F) is connected to this filter (FK). In order to protect the second interface circuit (SS) of the operating device from overvoltage and overcurrent coming from the communication module and acting upon the operating device, the second interface circuit (SS) comprises a protection circuit (&#xdc;S) against overvoltage and overcurrent. The invention is used in the field of protection systems against overvoltage.

A method for frequency- and time-selective interference suppression for a communication system based on OFDM, and a receiver therefor. To achieve a much lower bit error rate at the output of the receiver or to permit greater interference or a lower signal-to-noise ratio (in a prior art L-DACS1 receiver, at least 45 nautical miles) for the same transmission power, the invention provides: a filter bank pulse blanking method FBPB in which the sampled received signal is applied to a blanking unit for frequency-selective pulse blanking, which blanking unit consists of an analysis filter bank having M sub-bands; a module for frequency-selective pulse blanking of the sub-band signals; and a synthesis filter bank, which reassembles the signal. The analysis filter bank, which breaks down the received signal into multiple sub-bands on a frequency-selective basis, is used before OFDM windowing, such that the sub-band breakdown applies pulse blanking on a sub-band-selective basis.

A delta-sigma modulator for a switching amplifier, which achieves a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in the multi-MHz range and keeps the noise-transfer function over the useful frequency range as low and as flat as possible. A series connection of a parallel-serial converter and a downstream swap element for the serial output signal yof the parallel serial converter is connected to the multi-bit output of the delta-sigma-modulator. The swap element swaps, based on the last bit value 0 or 1 of a preceding word in the resulting output signal y, the sequence of the binary zeroes and ones of the current word, where present, and then an input signal is fed to the delta-sigma-modulator. The signal is capable of having a frequency range above 25 kHz, and is prepared with a low oversampling ratio and a high SNR. And, 1-0 or 0-1 transitions are largely eliminated at the word boundaries.

For automatic calibration of adjustment of blocking voltage during operation, the reconfigurable bandpass filter includes a filter control offering an external abstracted interface. For approximating of the best possible filter characteristic, the filter control determines, based on memorized data, the best configuration of tuning voltages. The devices include at least a cancellation circuit, which is connected downstream to dead time elements, an interference characteristic detection device and a cancellation control unit, which controls a setting of filter coefficients of an adaptive filter and the cancellation signal source. The adaptive filter is configured as a digital cancellation filter having filter coefficients separated in time by a first delay element having the delay time T, and having an adjustable additional delay time t, whereby the setting of the additional delay time &#x3c4; takes place together with the setting of filter coefficients.

A method and system for automatic object detection and subsequent object tracking in accordance with the object shape in digital video systems having at least one camera for recording and transmitting video sequences. In accordance with the method and system, an object detection algorithm based on a Gaussian mixture model and expanded object tracking based on Mean-Shift are combined with each other in object detection. The object detection is expanded in accordance with a model of the background by improved removal of shadows, the binary mask generated in this way is used to create an asymmetric filter core, and then the actual algorithm for the shape-adaptive object tracking, expanded by a segmentation step for adapting the shape, is initialized, and therefore a determination at least of the object shape or object contour or the orientation of the object in space is made possible.

A device and method for secondary radar signal reception with quasi-dynamic or dynamic sectoring of a space to be monitored. The device includes at least one antenna assembly including antenna elements for the reception of transmitted secondary radar signals, a signal processing unit connected via a connection point to the antenna elements for the joint processing of received antenna signals, outputs associated with a couple matrix in the signal processing unit and individual receivers. The couple matrix includes adjustable coefficients for sectoring of the space to be monitored and for performing a superposition of the antenna signals using a multiplicative-additive combination of the received antenna signals. In the case of dynamic sectoring of the space, each receiver receives for each receipt telegram another weighted superposition of the antenna signals with certain couple coefficients, and in the case of quasi-dynamic sectoring the adjustable coefficients are fixed over a longer time period.

The device includes: at least one array of antenna elements; a low noise first amplifier and bandpass filter combination connected to a plug-in connector S of the respective antenna elements; a first linear amplifier being connected at a filter output of said combination for amplifying the band-limited signal; a mixer connected to the first linear amplifier for the frequency conversion into a ZF region; a second linear amplifier and bandpass filter combination connected to the mixer output for amplifying and limiting the bandwidth of the signal in the ZF region; a first analog-to-digital converter connected to the second bandpass filter; a configurable signal processor connected to the first analog-to-digital converter; and a processing unit connected to the configurable signal processors.
