A positioning arrangement has a positioning element formed of a closed-cell foam, preferably a positioning mat, the positioning element has a seating surface for an examination subject to be examined with computed tomography and has an underside provided with a recess into which a reference member can be introduced. The recess has a holder for the reference member that holds the reference member introduced into the recess with a positive fit in a defined position relative to the seating surface.

Patient positioning for conducting a medical examination

A patient support fashioned of a core of carbon-fiber material and a synthetic material for binding the carbon-fiber material. The carbon-fiber core has a greater proportion of carbon fibers oriented substantially in lengthwise directions than in other directions. As a result of this construction, the patient support is substantially inflexible along its longitudinal axis yet flexible along its lateral axis. The sides of the support can be drawn up and around the patient, to hold the patient immobile within the support, which is especially helpful when transporting trauma patients and those with back and neck injuries. The support is also transparent to radiation, making it particularly suited to use with radiation imaging devices. Finally, the exterior surface of the support is formed of low-friction material, further facilitating practical use thereof. The support can be fashioned as a backboard or a patient transfer device and has a wide range of advantageous applications in a hospital environment.

X-ray compatible, partially flexible patient support

A patient support mechanism for use in a medical examination or therapy apparatus for supporting a patient has a frame on which a patient support plate is carried, the frame having substantially horizontally aligned surfaces laterally disposed at longitudinal sides of the support plate. The support plate has regions along its longitudinal sides which extend over and at least partially cover the horizontally aligned surfaces of the frame.

Patient support for use in a medical apparatus

A patient support of the type which is used for conducting medical examinations has a base with a patient support plate thereon. A gurney, for bringing a patient to the patient support to conduct an examination, has a carriage with its own patient support plate. The gurney is positioned adjacent to the patient support and the patient is transferred from the gurney to the patient support while remaining on the gurney support plate, the gurney support plate being held on the patient support by bearings. The gurney support plate is attached to the gurney carriage by a longitudinal guide, so that the gurney support plate is adjustable along its longitudinal axis. The gurney support plate can then be longitudinally co-displaced with the support plate of the apparatus patient support, so that it need not be detached from the carriage.

A patient support apparatus comprises a first support plate which can be transferred from an undercarriage onto a table frame of the medical apparatus. The table frame is provided with a second support plate which receives the first support plate directly, but enables an examination subject to be directly received on the second support plate without requiring the assembly of the first support plate.

An exemplary embodiment comprises a patient support, a radiation source which generates a radiation beam penetrating the radiography subject, a radiation receiver which converts the radiation intensity behind the subject into electric signals, a measurand converter for the conversion of the electric signals delivered by the radiation receiver into an optically visible image, and a rotating frame assembly on which the radiation source and the radiation receiver are mounted and which, for the purpose of scanning the radiography subject from various directions, is rotatably mounted about an axis extending in the longitudinal direction of the patient support. The rotating radiation source is adjustable in the longitudinal direction of the patient support jointly with movement of the patient support so that several parallel transverse layers of the radiography subject can be very rapidly scanned.
