An improved method and apparatus for creating a representation of transferred torque (&#x3c4;) over a rotation angle interval (&#x3b1;) for a torque transferring system wherein the torque transferring system includes at least two meshing gears, a torque meter for monitoring the transferred torque (&#x3c4;) in the torque transferring device, and an angular meter arranged to monitor an angular position (&#x3b1;) of at least one of the meshing gears over at least one angular interval (&#x3b1;). Further, the system includes a processor that is adapted to: map the transferred torque (&#x3c4;) to the monitored angular interval (&#x3b1;) and create a representation of the transferred torque (&#x3c4;) over said angular interval (&#x3b1;), analyze said representation in order to identify deviations from an expected representation, and based on said analysis determining a gear condition of at least one of the at least two meshing gears in the torque transferring device.

Method and apparatus for combining torque and angle representation

A power wrench with a torque sensing unit includes a housing, a motor, an output shaft, and a planetary reduction gearing connecting the motor to the output shaft and including a stationary ring gear supported in the housing, wherein the torque sensing unit includes a torque transferring element with a single radially extending reaction arm arranged to transfer reaction torque from the ring gear to the housing and carrying strain measuring sensors for generating signals in response to the transferred reaction torque. The torque transferring element includes an annular body with two weak portions to be elastically deformed during torque transfer and having flat surfaces for carrying the strain measuring sensors.
