A method for imaging objects through turbid media includes generating a repetitive pulsed light beam under control of a pulse shaper, propagating the light beam through turbid media, and receiving and imaging the light beam at a sensor. Propagation through turbid media causes scattering of the light, and the sensor captures scattered pulses to produce an image. The pulse shaper controls pulse width, frequency, repetition rate and chirp of the generated light pulses according to a feedback signal received from the sensor, to improve image quality. A system for imaging objects through turbid media includes a laser for generating a light beam; a pulse shaper for controlling said light beam, and a sensor, in communication with the pulse shaper, for capturing the image of said light beam through a turbid medium. Pulse width is less than 250 femtoseconds to reduce attenuation of the light beam through the turbid medium.

An optical transmission system for transmitting an optical pulse in a dielectric waveguide, the system including a filter for altering a shape of the optical pulse in both amplitude and phase with respect to time so as to substantially suppress the generation of third-order nonlinearities and increase a power level of the optical pulse, the filter further providing a secure encrypted optical waveform that may be decrypted by a matching optical filter, the system allowing for energy sharing of the pulses to substantially increase system bandwidth.

System and method for shaping a waveform

Systems and methods determining amplitude and phase versus frequency of an incoming beam of pulsed laser light. The incoming beam is split into two beams of substantially equal intensity, one of which is delayed for a delay period t. The two split beams are recombined to shine onto a thick SHG crystal at rotation angle &#x3b8; and light emitted from the thick SHG crystal is detected as data and stored with reference to the delay period t and the angle &#x3b8;. The thick SHG crystal is rotated by an angle &#x3b4;&#x3b8;, and light is detected as data and stored until the thick SHG crystal has completed 360&#xb0; of rotation. This is repeated for &#x3b4;t increases in the delay period until a selected beam delay period range has been completed. The stored data is processed to determine amplitude and phase versus frequency of the incoming beam of pulsed laser light.

Rotaryfrog systems and methods

An electromagnetic matched filter based multiple access communications system having a source of modulated pulses from a digital data stream; an initial filter which shapes the incoming modulated pulse into a desired pulse for transmission across the communication medium; a second filter, identical to the initial filter, which is matched to the pulse which exit the communication medium, a detector which converts the modulated pulse stream into the original digital data stream, and signals which are designed with specific mathematical properties which make the system efficient and minimizes crosstalk between channels. The signals decay rapidly from the central lobe at a higher than 1/x rate and the zero points of the autocorrelation function having high order multiplicities. The type of system allows multiplexing of multiple data streams with much greater flexibility, robustness, and density.
