A crosslinkable and crosslinked polymer composition containing a low density polyethylene (LDPE) homopolymer or low density polyethylene (LDPE) copolymer has excellent direct current (DC) electrical properties. The crosslinked polymer composition has an electrical conductivity of 150 fS/m or less, when measured at 70&#xb0; C. and a 30 kV/mm mean electric field from a non-degassed, 1 mm thick plaque sample of the crosslinked polymer composition when measured according to a direct current (DC) conductivity method. A cable can be surrounded by at least one layer of the polymer composition.

Polymer composition and a power cable comprising the polymer composition

A polymer composition includes a crosslinked polyolefin with improved DC electrical properties. Prior to crosslinking, the polymer composition includes a polyolefin and peroxide, in which the peroxide is in an amount of less than 35 mmol &#x2014;O&#x2014;O&#x2014; per kilogram of the polymer composition. A cable can be surrounded by at least one layer including the polymer composition.

Crosslinkable polymer composition and cable with advantageous electrical properties

The invention relates to polymer composition comprising a polyolefin (a) and an inorganic filler (b) wherein the polyolefin (a) is obtainable by a high pressure process which process comprises the steps: (i) compressing one or more monomer(s) under pressure in a compressor, using a compressor lubricant for lubrication, (ii) polymerising a monomer optionally together with one or more comonomer(s) in a polymerisation zone, (iii) separating the obtained polyolefin (a) from the unreacted products and recovering the separated polyolefin (a) in a recovery zone, wherein in step (i) the compressor lubricant comprises a non-mineral oil, power cable, for example a direct current (DC) power cable, use of a polymer composition and a process for producing a DC power cable.

Polymer composition and cable with advantageous electrical properties

A cross-linked polymer composition includes a cross-linked polyolefin. Peroxide in an amount of less than 35 mmol &#x2014;O&#x2014;O&#x2014;/kg polymer composition may be included in the polymer composition prior to crosslinking the polyolefin. Suitable polyolefins that can be cross-linked in the polymer composition include an unsaturated LDPE homopolymer and an unsaturated LDPE copolymer of ethylene with one or more comonomers. Such unsaturated LDPE polymer can contain vinyl groups, and the total amount of vinyl groups present in the unsaturated LDPE can be higher than 0.05/1000 carbon atoms. The cross-linked polymer composition can be used, for example, in producing a cross-linkable and cross-linked article such as a cross-linkable and cross-linked direct current (DC) or other type of power cable.

A transmission cable includes a conductor or a bundle of conductors extending along a longitudinal axis, which is circumferentially covered by an insulation layer having an extruded insulation material, whereby the transmission cable passes the electrical type test as specified in Cigr&#xe9; TB496, whereby the rated voltage Uis 450 kV or more. The type test includes subjecting the power cable to a DC voltage of 1.85*Uduring 10 to 15 cycles at negative polarity, followed by a polarity reversal with another 10 to 15 cycles at positive polarity at a DC voltage of 1.85*U, followed by additional 2 to 5 cycles during at least 4 to 10 days at positive polarity, and wherein Uis 450 kV, or 525 kV, or more.

Electrical HV transmission power cable

An alternating current (AC) power cable includes a conductor surrounded by at least an inner semiconductive layer including a first semiconductive composition, an insulation layer including a polymer composition, an outer semiconductive layer including a second semiconductive composition, and optionally a jacketing layer including a jacketing composition, in that order. The polymer composition of the insulation layer includes an unsaturated low density polyethylene (LDPE) copolymer of ethylene with one or more polyunsaturated comonomers and a crosslinking agent. The polymer composition of the insulation layer has a dielectric loss expressed as tan &#x3b4; (50 Hz) of 12.0&#xd7;10or less, when measured at 25 kV/mm and 130&#xb0; C. according to 'Test for Tan &#x3b4; measurements on 10 kV cables'.

Polymer composition for cable applications with advantageous electrical properties

A cable having one or more conductors surrounded by at least an inner semiconductive layer, an insulation layer and an outer semiconductive layer, in that order. The insulation layer has at least 90 wt % of a polymer composition, said polymer composition having 80.0 to 99.9 wt % of an LDPE homopolymer or copolymer; and 0.1 to 20.0 wt % of: an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene having a Mw of at least 1,000,000; or a single site catalysed medium density polyethylene (MDPE) having a density of 925 to 940 kg/mor a single site catalysed linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) having a density of 910 to 925 kg/m.

Cable with advantageous electrical properties

A method produces a polymer composition with improved DC electrical properties. A cable can be surrounded by at least one layer that includes the polymer composition. The polymer composition includes a polyolefin, and the polymer composition has an electric conductivity of 0.50&#xd7;10S/m or less, when measured according to DC conductivity method using a tape sample consisting of the polymer composition.
