A monitoring system and method for early detection of fall risk. A rise-state of a subject occupying a bed is detected. In response to the detection of the rise-state, blood pressure measurement of the subject is triggered. An alarm when the measured blood pressure is not within a selected range of blood pressures.

Early acute fall risk detection

A ballistocardiographic method and monitoring system calculates an indicator of the average heart rate of a test subject within a time interval. The test subject may be a fetus inside a mother's belly, or infant lying in the same bed as an adult. The monitoring system comprises a recoil surface and an acceleration sensor in contact with the recoil surface. A control unit identifies in the time domain the characteristics of the adult's heartbeat during the time interval. The output signal is then transformed to the frequency domain across the time interval and the signal is screened with the adult heartbeat characteristics. The indicator is then calculated from the screened signal in the frequency domain. The control unit monitors the indicator of the infant or fetus heart rate and may provide an alert if the indicator value drops very rapidly, or falls below a predetermined threshold value.

Method and apparatus for monitoring heartbeats

The present invention relates to method and a system for detecting sleep phenomena, the phenomena including at least one of sleep cycles and sleep disorders such as sleep apnea and hypopnea. Ballistocardiologic signals are detected from a subject person, which provide simultaneous information on heart rate variability (HVV) and stroke volume (SV) of the subject. Values of parameters reflecting measured characteristics of currently occurring cardiologic and respiration related sleep phenomena are obtained by processing at least said ballistocardiologic signals. Obtained parameters are used for making decisions on detection of said sleep phenomena, and a monitoring result is output in response to detection of a currently occurring sleep phenomenon.

Method and system for monitoring stress level of a subject. Beat-to-beat time variation and stroke volume variation of the heart a subject are obtained simultaneously, and a stress level indication is determined as a function of the beat-to-beat time variation and the relative stroke volume variation. More accurate and reliable estimates for stress level may be obtained.

The invention shows a method to control a pointing device with an angular, rate sensor, that comprises generating an ensemble of orthogonal unit vector associated signals by at least one angular rate sensor to represent angular rates in a dimensional space for each mutually orthogonal unit vector direction of said dimensional space, amplifying the at least one of said signal non-linearly for determination of cursor on a screen for (x,y) coordinates of the screen, applying a decision criterion to determine the state of the pointing device as based on said unit vector associated signals. The invention also shows a pointer utilizing the method and a system comprising such a pointer.

A toothbrushing monitoring device for a user includes a sensor coupled with the toothbrush for measuring toothbrushing patterns, a recording device coupled with the sensor, and a comparator. The recording device records data relating to the user's preferred toothbrushing patterns in a first mode, which is used to establish toothbrushing pattern reference data. The comparator compares toothbrushing patterns measured by the sensor and the toothbrushing pattern reference data, which may be output to an output device. In one example, the sensor consists of only an accelerometer.
