A method and device for controlling the fuel and/or air supply to an internal combustion engine in the fuel section thereof, such as a carburetor or a fuel injection system, so that the mixture ratio (A/F ratio) is adjusted automatically to a desired level in response to various operational conditions. In a rotational-speed feed back regulating circuit, a feed-back control unit which receives information on the rotational speed from the engine briefly adjusts an adjustment device to provide a brief change of the mixture ratio and, in connection with the brief A/F/ ratio change, a number of revolution times are measured. At least one revolution time refers to a rotational speed that is essentially unaffected by the A/F ratio change and at least one revolution time refers to a rotational speed that is affected by the A/F ratio change. On the basis of these revolution times, at least one difference in revolution times between affected and unaffected rotational speeds is computed. Based on this difference and on stored information, the control unit will, as the case may be, affect the adjustment means to change the A/F ratio in the desired direction.

Engine air/fuel ratio control

In a method and device for controlling a carburetor (1) of an i. c. engine, the A/F ratio thereof is automatically adjusted to a preferred level during varying operating conditions. An adjusting means (5) is continuously actuated by a first control unit (4) of a first control circuit (3) to provide a A/F ratio having a modified dependency on the speed of rotation. An adjusting means (9) is periodically actuated for a short period by a second control unit (7) of a second control circuit (6), said second control unit receiving speed information (8) from the engine (2), to provide a short-term change of the mixture ratio, and the change of speed of rotation caused thereby is measured. With regard to the obtained result and stored information the second control unit (7) performs an adjustment of the mixture ratio by a predetermined step towards leaner or richer mixture by actuating an adjusting means (5). This procedure is repeated in the second control circuit (6) until the change of speed of rotation indicates that the mixture ratio is at a preferred level, and this adjustment is maintained for a period of time.

Method and device for controlling a carburetor

A two cycle i. c. engine adjusted to a certain maximum engine speed at a correct fuel mixture ratio is provided with an electrically adjustable fuel system and a tachometer. The invention is based on the fact that the engine speed is at its maximum at a mixture ratio which provides a carbon monoxide emission below normal. At the maximum engine speed the adjustment of the carburetor is optimized in relation to the mixture ratio by means of a control circuit.

Arrangement in an i. c. engine

The invention is an arrangement for controlling the air/fuel ratio A/F in a carburetor. The arrangement can be connected to a membrane or a float carburetor and controls the mixture ratio by influence on the differential pressure .DELTA.p between the fuel chamber (18) and the venturi (12). The subpressure from some part of the intake system (16) is passed through a magnetic valve (32) activated by pulses of a variable length. In order to equalize the whole or part of the subpressure there is an opening (33) with inlet from the atmosphere to the valve. By varying the pulse length a changeable subpressure is obtained which is connected in lieu of the regular atmospheric ventilation of the carburetor.
