The present invention relates to a substantially spheroidal fragmentation device (). The fragmentation device () comprises: i) a protective exterior layer () of resilient material accommodating at least one warhead (); ii) an inner core () protected by said exterior layer (). The inner core () comprises: ii.a) an insensitive munition (IM); ii.b) a polymeric, plastic and/or rubbery matrix embedding the insensitive munition (IM); ii.c) explosive material () enclosed within the matrix of ii.b) and/or surrounding the matrix of ii.b). The ratio of the thickness of the protective exterior layer () to the radius of the fragmentation device () ranges from 0.1:1 to 0.7:1. The warhead () is accommodated within the protective exterior layer () or between the inner core () and the protective exterior layer (). The invention also relates to a method of firing a fragmentation device () as disclosed herein, wherein a firearm is aimed at a surface enabling rebounding of the fragmentation device () whereby the fragmentation device () changes direction. The invention also relates to the use of a fragmentation device () as disclosed herein in a firearm.

Fragmentation device and method firing such a device

This disclosure relates to a method and an arrangement for low or non-rotating artillery shells fired from launch weaponry, and which introduces a portion of the barrel pressure built up in the barrel during the launch phase into a chamber arranged in the low or non-rotating artillery shell which is delimited in at least one direction by an element which is movable relative to the rest of the shell when a differential pressure between the chamber and the external environment of the shell is sufficient to move the element. The moveable element may be a protective casing covering fins of the artillery shell.

Method and arrangement for low or non-rotating artillery shells

The present invention relates to a fin-stabilized artillery shell () comprising a body part () which can be axially displaced rearwards, in the direction of flight of the shell, once the latter has left the barrel from which it has been fired, and which in the original position is fully retracted in the shell (), and in which a number of deployable fins () are in turn secured, and from which the fins are automatically deployed as soon as the body part has reached its rear position in which it is locked relative to the rest of the shell. One of the advantages of the invention is that in the flight position it gives the shell a greater length than is permitted by the charging position of the artillery piece launching the shell. This gives the shell considerably better stability in its trajectory towards the target. The invention also includes different embodiments of the body part () which can be tubular () or cylinder-shaped () and accommodate different types of fins () and also in certain configurations a built-in base-bleed unit (). The body part can also be divided into two parts (and) which rotate freely relative to each other and which allow the fins () to spin freely relative to the rest of the shell () which has been shown to make the latter more easily manoeuvred without impairing its directional stability.

Fin-stabilized shell

The present invention relates to a method and a device for improving&#x2014;at least in part&#x2014;the external ballistieds of primarily the type of artillery shells () that are fin-stabilised in their trajectory towards the target and thus have a slipping plastic driving band () which, during firing of the said shell from a designated barrel, constitutes the shell's direct contact with the inside of the barrel. The problem that it is the function of the present invention to resolve is that the slipping plastic driving band () normally detaches immediately outside the muzzle of the barrel used for firing, thereby leaving an open groove () that causes distrubing turbulence which is detrimental to the flight of the said shell. The solution to the problem herein proposed is based on a ring-shaped spring-loaded device () arranged between the driving band () and the bottom of the driving band groove () and which device is held pressed against the bottom of the said driving band groove as long as the driving band () is in position but as soon as it detaches from the said driving band groove the said device deploys to re-assume a pre-determined original shape which completely fills the driving band groove () up to and level with the outer surface of the shell ().

Artillery shell and method of firing thereof

The present invention relates to a fin-stabilized missile ( ) of the type which is intended to be fired at high acceleration towards a defined target along its trajectory and which can be guided in the trajectory and which, for stabilizing it in the trajectory, is provided with stabilizing fins ( ) arranged at its rear end, and control elements ( ) which are arranged at its front end and are intended to guide the latter, and whose rear part, in which the fins are secured, consists of a body part ( ) which can rotate freely relative to the main part ( ) of the missile about a bearing ( ) arranged concentric to the longitudinal axis (L) of the missile ( ). According to the invention, said bearing ( ) is arranged near the dividing plane between the missile ( ) and the body part ( ) and has a short length in the longitudinal direction of the missile, this having been made possible by the fact that it has been given a large diameter compared with its length and it has been designed with special load-bearing contact surfaces ( ) which limit the stresses during ramming and firing and during the flight of the missile ( ) through the air. The freely rotatable body part ( ) for the fins ( ) can then in turn be axially displaced from a launch position located inside the missile to a flight position where the fins ( ) are pushed out behind the rear plane of the missile, where they can rotate freely.

Fin-stabilized guidable missile

The present invention relates to a long-range artillery shell ( ) that is fin-stabilised in its trajectory and which is designed to be fired in a rifled gun barrel and thus has a slipping driving band ( ) as main contact surface with the inside of the barrel, and has a so-called base-bleed unit ( ) with a number of stabilization fins ( ) that are deployable after the shell has left the barrel. A special feature of the shell ( ) as claimed in the present invention is that the fins ( ), when activated, are radially displaceable to project outside the external periphery of the shell through slots or through-holes ( ) in the wall of the shell, but are initially radially retracted inside the propellant motor section or propellant chamber ( ) of the base-bleed unit ( ) between dedicated protective walls ( ) that isolate the fins from the surrounding propelling charges ( ) of the propellant motor and also divide the inside of the propellant motor ( ) into sectors ( ) that are separated from each other.

Fin-stabilized artillery shell

The present invention relates to an artillery missile ( ) intended for firing on a ballistic trajectory, with gliding characteristics which can be put into effect, after it has reached the summit of this trajectory, to increase the maximum range of the missile. In order to obtain these gliding characteristics, the missile is provided with extendable aerodynamic bearing surfaces divided into firstly canard fins ( ), which are retracted in the front part of the missile body and can be extended after the summit of trajectory, secondly main bearing surfaces ( ) made of resilient material, which, likewise during launching, are curved in against and around the central part ( ) of the missile body in shallow recesses adapted thereto in the outer casing of the missile and which, after the summit of trajectory and being extended, form the wings ( ) of the missile, and thirdly stem fins, which, durign at least launching, are covered i the retracted position by a protective cover ( ) in the rear part ( ) of the missile.

The present invention relates to a method and a device designed for use with such shells ( ) that are equipped with a base-bleed unit ( ) for extended range and which during the first phase of their trajectory are spin-stabilised but which in the subsequent phase are subjected to spin deceleration by fins ( ) that deploy from the shell body and take over the stabilising function. More exactly the present invention is a method and a device that enables the said shells ( ) to achieve an effective and functional deployment of the fins ( ) at the desired point in time with simultaneous ejection of the base-bleed unit ( ) which at this point in time either no longer performs any useful function since it is burnt-out and solely constitutes a dead-weight or its function is no longer required. The basic idea behind the present invention is that the base-bleed unit ( ) and the fin protector ( ) that initially surrounds the fins ( ) shall be permanently integrated with each other and thereby can be removed/ejected as a single unit.

Method and device for a fin-stabilized base-bleed shell

An apparatus is provided for a primer for igniting a propellant charge of an ammunition unit which includes a cartridge case, a shell located in the forward end of the cartridge case, a tracer cartridge secured to the rear surface of the shell, a propellant charge in the cartridge case, a primer having an elongate primer tube extending in the case through the propellant charge and a space defined in the longitudinal direction of the case between the tracer cartridge and the primer tube. The apparatus comprises a sleeve member having a first end portion mounted onto a forward end of the primer tube and a second end portion adapted to be applied over the tracer cartridge and a partition member provided inside the sleeve member intermediate the end portions for preventing displacement of the sleeve member with respect to the primer tube and therefore preventing collision between the tracer cartridge and the primer tube.
